One for each of your computers (up to 5?)… same as iTunes purchases. I’ve got it running on a MacPro and my MBP right now. Installed without a hitch on both computers (only paid for one license). In fact I’ve opened on both at the same time.

There are step by step instructions on how to remove the pulldown pattern in the Cinema Tools’ manual. Search it with the terms: “Removing 2:3:3:2 or 2:3:2:3 Pull-Down with Cinema Tools”.

I should think it would work fine, as long as your scratch disk setup is fast enough. Right now, you’d want the 17″ machine so you could add a fast eSATA array to it.

The clip is reporting non drop TC… not drop frame. The duration is real time represented by the semicolons and what drop frame code would produce.
Has nada to do with your sync problem. That’s the real problem any way…
What is the source of the audio, it’s format and recoding process? What are you trying to sync it to video wise?Jerry

The only places you can send the file to is a drive, Mobile me account, YouTube… don’t think there’s a way from within Compressor to make the destination a web address.
But Compressor has the option to execute an AppleScript if you know how to use that for the upload there might be a way to do it that way?
But you could do it easily from within Sorenson’s Squeeze or Telestream’s software… better compression software either one to boot.

I can’t comment on why the Dell hurts your eyes, but could it just be too bright? I prefer non shiny screens for long sessions… Matte screens sure seem to be easier on the eye.
The big difference between computer displays and video monitors is the gamma response on them. If you intend to deliver for TV sets or video displays, then you should view your material and color correct it using an external video monitor. If for the web, it’s not as critical. But color doesn’t really look the same between the two types of displays.

If you remove the pulldown from any of the 24p material it all becomes 24 fps… so it should match, and it doesn’t matter whether it was PA or P… Don’t think recapturing will do any better than the software removal either. The actual difference between 24pa and 24p is the pulldown pattern itself. 24PA is 2:3:3:2 and 24p is 2:3:2:3. When you remove the redundant fields from either format you end up with 24fps QT movies.The structure of 24PA footage (2:3:3:2) makes it easier to capture it as true 24fps removing the pulldown during capture. 2323 footage has to go through software.
And when you view externally, the fields are added back during playback FWIW… Most all video monitors can only display 29.97. In the end, I’d make the DVD’s 24p and let the players add back the pulldown pattern. Also it’s a lot easier to have a true 24fps QT movie transferred to film for theatrical display.

If the key is clean in FCP with the plugin, I’d just do it there. Also would do it after the edit is locked… why work on keys of material that gets cut out?

Try the easy setup for HDV using the frame rate you’ve shot… Also the HDV deck has to be set to HDV playback.

Buy more drive space?
I think any compression software would do the job you want to do though… Compressor can select in and out points within a clip for a conversion, but in any event compression software would recompress the video to another or even the same format. (Sometimes with errors like you’re seeing) FCP’s QT export will not recompress it if you use the “same settings” as the source clip, and make the clips self contained. You’d then just keep it XDCAM.
I don’t quite understand why using FCP is any more difficult than say, MPEG streamclip to select sections of the video to cut it down to size. You could make a series of subclips then use a batch export to create self contained movies from those subclips…
