Well, I need more info.. what was the codec used when shot? HDV? HDCAM? avchd? or from a DSLR or?
Chances are you need to transcode your footage to ProRes using the same frame rate and size you shot. Then put a clip in a sequence. It should ask you to conform, and you should say yes. You shouldn’t have to render anything just by placing it in a sequence after that unless it’s NOT proves… like a graphic or something.

No way to do this in FCP I know of. type L 3 times. or two, and cruise it that way. If they are only a few frames, you might see one?

Select the clip in the timeline window, and then click on the retiming button to select “optical flow” from the video quality submenu there.

Nope. When you put anything in a sequence, the sequence will render to that codec anyway…

You likely didn’t loose the connection to the browser clip by changing it’s in’s and outs a bunch, but that said, you can match frame the “Source file” from the view menu and get the clip back temporally in the Viewer to edit in the audio from it.
But best to figure out what you’re doing so you stay affiliated with the Browser clips. There are commands to unaffiliated them for sure.

I can’t give you an answer to this other than I’d sure just rent another matching camera. I think otherwise you’re in for more work matching than you save by not renting. They’ll never really look the same unless you really work on both sides of the equation. Shooting and Grading, and even then I doubt they’d match exactly.

Yes, you can import to X only portions of clips of the originals still on the cards or drives . Apple warns that if you have problems with portions of clips, then import the whole clip… FWIW…
