I don’t think Apple is abandoning the pros… What would a consumer need with all of the clip metadata that X provides, and what would a consumer need with XML in and out…? 90% of the users of FCP don’t even own an external monitor, would never send XML to another app, and likely shoot with consumer cameras. I think Apple just had to call a stop to a feature set at some point, and when 90% of the user base could use FCP X as it stood in Feb. ’11, Apple locked in the feature set. It’s 1.0 software… FCP 1 could only handle DV… remember?
Apple has a long history of leapfrogging competitors. X is well positioned to do just that. It’s just not finished.
I going to poll my user group (400 working professionals) and I’ll wager less than 5 have changed platforms from 7. I’ll also wager 200 of them bought FCP X…

Have him make the logo the size it ends up being… i.e., don’t resize it in any way. Make sure the logo is RGB, not CMYK, and set the dpi to be 72… yep that’s all that will resolve anyway. DPI doesn’t have anything to do with video actually, but 72 dpi is all that will resolve in video.
It’s likely the resizing causing the ugly logo…

Could sure be an install gone wonky… Not common, but not unheard of either. Pretty much it’s best practice to rebuild a startup disk from the ground up any time there’s an upgrade from one OS to another (aka Leopard to Snow Leopard) and any time there’s a new version of FCS (FCS 2 to FCS (2009). About the only time it’s not necessary is on a new machine installing Studio on it for the first time.
But doing it clean does really make a difference in my experience. We do this every 6 months at the 75 edit bay school I teach, and it’s paid off in extremely stable setups. I don’t think a single user setup needs to do this as often per se, but only when things happen as described above.

James, when is the last time you performed a clean install on your startup disk? If you’ve not done that in a while, it’s likely time. What you see isn’t a bug in the software or we’d all be seeing it…

Don’t think a blur would do much but soften the picture. If you wanted the car lights to say trail or something, you need to actually shoot it with a long exposure to get that effect I’d think. Few if any video cameras can do this. Film cameras can. DSLR’s probably could pull this off too. I think that’s what you’re after, right?

Wait Tim… I have a clip which I’ve not corrected in any way. It has super black (about 5 IRE lower than 0) and whites are around 110. I add the filter. Nada happens… If I make the clip a compound clip, it works just fine on it. This isn’t the way it’s intended to be don’t think…

OH brother. Still feels like a bug… sure enough, if I turn a single clip into a compound clip, then the safe filter affects the clip. I don’t understand why it doesn’t affect the clip if it’s not a compound clip. It should according to the manual… it says nothing about the findings in that thread.

Time lapse is nothing more than speeding up time by making the clip play faster, or by taking single frame exposures at less than 24 or 30 fps… so speeding up the footage will simulate a time lapse exposure. Don’t think there’s a “better” way to do this.

No, just use the r3d files in Color, but set Color to render out at 2k ProRes 422 or 4444 if you have a capture card which will scale it to 1080 for the tape layout. If you don’t have a capture card, then render it to 1080. Better done with the card doing the 2k to 1080.

Try just selecting the Event, not the clips.
