Try exporting the QT movie again, and be sure to check on “use current settings”. If this distorts the file, post your sequence settings exactly. Don’t use QT conversion. Use File/export/QT movie.

The audio in the clip isn’t from that tape. It’s likely from another recording device and then sync’d to the video. It was merged with a different file…

There are upgrades to FCP 7 still on ebay and Amazon.. might want to upgrade to it if you’re going to be running Lion.
Also you might want to wait just a bit if you can. It’s pretty likely a new line of Mac Pros are just around the corner. Likely within 45 days I’d think. They might be what you want, but if not, the prices on the current machines will drop to clear inventory all over…

If FCP sees it as a QT movie, so will Compressor.
Something else… rebuild that single file from MXF again to QT wrapper, might be corrupt or something, and that could fix it.

I beg to disagree with the development time.
Development of FCP X can and (according to Apple) will happen a lot sooner than before because it’s not carbonized code, Apple doesn’t need to get to a gold master of 6 applications just to release a new version of FCP, QuickTime isn’t it’s base, they don’t have to print DVD’s and manuals either. Cocoa code complies a ton faster than carbon did. So I’ll wager your suggestion of a 5 year wait is much more likely 2. FCP 7 for another couple of years when you have to use it isn’t such a big deal don’t think. And if Apple lets us down here, THEN I’d look at something else, if I actually need to at that time.
For that matter, the cost of all this software is so low that there’s little reason not to run Adobe, Avid, FCP 7, X and whatever else all on the same system. You just have to be careful with upgrades of OS etc… stay where they all work. Use the app that best suits the job. It’s not as if Apple is pulling the plug on 7 and we can’t open it any more… right?

There are no format settings for the titles… they conform to whatever the sequence setting is the moment you place them there.
If you have material under them that needed rendering (filters, stills etc), you’ll need to re render. (normal)
If you have turned off “Unlimited playback” from the RT pop up menu in the Timeline Window, you’ll need to render too. Faster computers need to render less BTW.But from what you’ve posted, it’s hard to tell the exact reason why you’re having to render, but it’s not a setting to change there except for that RT menu item.
