Marco’s suggestion to use the second SATA bay for an “ease into it” solution running Tiger and FCP 5 is exactly what I’ve done. I stll have a 10.3.8 system running 4.5… But I’m finding bugs in 5 and sending them to apple for their perusal. Yeah it sounds like beta testing and from a point of view it is. But the grass isn’t greener anywhere guys. I’ve been running NLE’s since there was NLE’s and it’s never been different.
That said, no one is putting thumbscrews on you to get you to buy the latest software when it comes out. YOU make that choice. When you run on the bleeding edge, you bleed… always have a backup plan… and never leave your working system completely away from you. Chris you should have know better… I’m sorry to hear of your problems, but also feel that you were unlucky in the install, and suggest that if you had reinstalled you may have come up with a better start. I did… so why not you? Bad luck came into play here somewhat I think.

Well, I’m doing this right now guys. I have projects that I have to re edit for a client that were produced originally in FCP 3, modified in 4 and now I’m running them in 5 and don’t see any of these particular problems… I did run software update before installing FCP 5, to get to 10.4.1 but other than that, I did an erase and install of Tiger, and simply made copes of the project files to open them there… all works OK with Kona 2 and it’s latest drivers.

Not to step on Jared, but you can view DV’s offlineRT thru the kona… just set it’s output to be 29.97 NTSC. I checked this out just now, and it works…

Have you tried reinstalling the latest drivers for the Io?

Not sure what’s happening, but I have several d2 LaCie disks, and they all work fine. There was some firmware updates a long time ago for the 800 disks I ran (probably still posted on LaCie’s site). Have you run those?

Change the viewing option to RGB… it’s the oval button in the Canvas on the right…

Might consider logging in excel… that way you could just setup the necessary fields. But don’t think there’s a tab way to do what you want… you could actually mouse there though.

A Kona 2 card can down convert HD for display on an NTSC monitor, and capture uncompressed HD… (course you won’t see the HD, but will see the correct color etc.. I’d wonder about color correction on an LCD in general… the gammas are very different for starters. Capturing HD thru FW would involve the Panasonic gear (Varicam)… it’s compressed, but it’s native and pretty much lossless actually. I’d think that the cost of doing it this way would be a lot less expensive post-wise, and much easier on the storage budget.
To capture and work with uncompressed HD, you’ll need some very serious hard drives for the media capture/playback. SCSI 320 array at least… or a fibre channel solution… like an X Serve RAID…

AJA has a cool app downloadable from them to figure out storage space requirements for all formats… it’s in the Kona 2 support page… https://www.aja.com/support_kona.html look toward the bottom of the page.
External SATA arrays will handle uncompressed 10 bit NTSC or PAL, however they aren’t going to be fast enough for useful storage of HD uncompressed, that would take at least a dual channel SCSI array. 4 gig Fibre would be better and folks like Huge Systems are getting ready to release 4 Gig Fibre solutions that will be the defacto standard I’d think very soon. They showed pre release hardware at NAB that could sustain 500 mb/sec… that’s enough for 3 streams of uncompressed HD… fastest SCSI is about half that.
If you only need DVCPROHD captured material (via firewire for example) you can use much less expensive disk storage… in fact a fast FW 800 drive will suffice for it. it’s data rates are larger than DV, but at most a 1080i 60 DVCPRO native capture is only 13.7mb/sec… the 720 native codecs are even smaller. HD uncompressed can be well over 100mb/sec…
