It’s a preset. You don’t have to change anything. use the “high” quality presets that are already there. Use the shortest one you can… i.e. a 90 minute preset if your show’s less than 90 etc…

I seem to do it a lot. Same client, changes to product line, means update of the associated video… It’s less expensive to buy a firewire drive than it is to recapture media in their case for sure… we also use a lot of the same media from project to project so it helps there too.

The only time I’ve seen General Error 34 is with a bad psd file… so it sort of leads me to believe that this error has something to do with a media file FCP doesn’t like for whatever reason…

Trash your preference file for FCP… it’s probably corrupted. user/library/preferences/FCP user data…

DV? You need an ADVC-110 for it… (canopus.com) or you can use a DV deck or camera and send the video out to it, and take the analog outputs of the machine/camera to a video monitor.
Other than DV? You probably already own what you need… i.e. a Kona Card or other capture card.
DVD SP doesn’t support external video don’t think.

White video playback usually points at codec problems. Might reinstall QuickTime to fix this. is this DV or?

The problem isn’t your method… try a dual pass high quality compression setting in Compressor. If this fails post back.
If it persists, trash your render files in FCP… and if no joy, recapture your video… There’s something wrong with the source media if “hits” are happening all over the place… especially with a dual pass VBR setting in Compressor. This never fails for me.
