I’d think your problem comes from dragging and dropping on the desktop… if you use Media Manager to make copies, I’ll wager that the problem wouldn’t happen.

The Kona 2 would be my choice here, but it only accellerates DVCPRO100. The real RT machine in the Suite is Motion (Motion Graphics is it’s speciality), and you’ll want the fastest CPU and Graphics card for it. RT in FCP is totally dependant on CPU speed and disk drive speeds. The faster the setup, the more RT you get. And it’s scalable with RT settings. Depending on the video format you use, and the effects you choose, you can get up to 9 layers of video in RT. But if you want to compare this to say, a top of the line Avid, you’ll get more RT if you spend the extra 100k…

Pretty sure that Compressor 1 has a preset for MPEG-1 or you can make one yourself, then turn it into a droplet. Choose a QuickTime export, then change it’s compression to MPEG-1.

If FCP’s Capture preset editor shows the MOTU, the answer would be yes. It would be a matter of setting up a capture preset whose device for audio is the MOTU.

Might try playing back the file on another computer… If it’s OK there, then figure there’s someting wrong with the PB… I’d think if the same file played back fine a month ago, it doesn’t just go out of sync by itself…

It’s normal, and has been this way for a long time. The video is playing back at a lower quality, but contains all the resolution that you started with when you choose file/export QuickTime movie… In fact if it’s not self contained, it’s the exact same media you’ve been working with in FCP to create your masterpiece. If you export this file to DVD SP, compress it there and burn a DVD, you gain nada by going thru the motions of opening it in QT and turning on the high quality playback.

Duplicate the DV capture preset you are using now. In the Preset editor window that will open when you duplicate, click on the advanced button in the audio area of the window. Turn speakers to ON in the pop up menu there… use this capture preset to have your computer’s speakers monitor audio when loging and capturing…

Select everything in the Browser. Right click on an item and select “Make Offline”. Delete the media from the disk.
Open the tools menu and select Render Manager. Delete all renders from the project there.

Take a look at the Canopus ADVC box.. https://www.canopus.com
But you really might not need this at all. You should be able to to take the S video and the audio from the Betacam machine thru the DV deck and accomplish the same thing… Then take the deck’s outputs to the Beta to record back. Conversion then is being done by the DV deck connected to your Mac via firewire.
