I wouldn’t think that the speed of new driver releases should be considered a plus or minus actually… if a card doesn’t need them… it doesn’t need them.
I really don’t think that there is a side by side, blow by blow comparison anywhere… I’ve read a lot of posts out there over the years however, and rarely, if ever was the problem(s) discussed due to problems with an AJA product… They are here in the US, where Decklink is in Austraila if quick tech support is important to you, AJA would probably win on that front. (As long as you live in the US of course!) Running FCP, I’d offer that AJA’s relationship with Apple is the strongest out there…Io is the proof of that pudding..

Make sure you’re running the latest drivers for the AJA hardware. I’d download the 7.0.2 update for QT and install that too.
If trashing prefs doesn’t work, reinstalling is the next step to trouble shoot. Odd that it’s on all machines too… Does this happen in All resolutions?

You could match frame a clip… then the source TC would be in the Viewer.

I’ve not seen this, are you running FCP 5.0.2, OS 10.4.2, and QT 7.0.2? When you upgraded to Tiger, did you do a clean install? i.e. rebuild the startup disks?
What is the source of the title? Calligraphy or the text tools? or?

Use the overlay… it’s the only way this works as far as I know… what the source TC display refers to is not the original code of the source clip (it has to do with fps material that isn’t the same as the sequence setting’s fps… read about it in the manual. type “source Time” in the search box in FCP help…

Do they show up without nesting it? is there a reason to nest it? I never see black frames from just nesting, so figure you should post more about what was going on before the nest, and which version of OS, FCP, and Quicktime are you running? Post also about what you are using for scratch disks and what format the video is.

You’ll find that all works without doing anything different from interlaced footage… Was PAL? right? just capature as PAL DV… and go.. Don’t need a special machine either.. any PAL player wll play it.

Might call AppleCare… you’ve tried everything I would have suggested… installation troubleshooting is free from Apple… 1-800-myapple is the number.

FWIW, I capture Beta SP all the time thru my Kona2 card without these problems, but am using AJA’s mini converter to do it… might be the fix, dunno… https://www.aja.com/d10a.htm Audio is coming in from the Kbox…

You can smooth these points… but what it does is sort of round them out. However there’s a plugin garbage matte here: https://www.chv-plugins.com/bezierpro.html That would no doubt do the job…
