No it doesn’t support anything but DV and HDV as far as I know.
He should be working in the same software you are I’d think. Unless he works DV or HDV then the FW 800 is fast enough. Otherwise over 60-70% capacity they slow down too much for 8 bit uncompressed playback in any event. They woudn’t be recommended I’d say for uncompressed video. Ya need at least a SATA or FW 800 ARRAY like a G-raid to do this right on his end…
He needs a capture card to just see it externally on a TV set.
I’d say he should learn in DV however to keep ye old costs down. and FCE is FCP REALLY Lite…

Well if you hold down the shift key ya get 30 frames. That’s about it with the arrow key shortcuts… You can type + and – numbers and move any number you type.

10.4.2 and FCP 5.0.2 is pretty stable indeed. So is 5.0.3 on it so far I’m finding.

Might be prudent to quit using forward slashes in clip names because OS X thinks these are path names… Could be part of the problem relinking for sure.

Well I can say that I’m not having any problems exporting MPEG-2 on Tiger and the Studio software…

Windows can recognize QuickTime Movies if the machine has downloaded the free player from Apple… Might try the Sorenson 3 codec in a QT movie and make the data rate sort of high with it. I’d venture to guess even older laptops could play that.

I’m a big fan of Weibetech or Granite Digital enclosed drives. You can buy the enclosures from either of the companies and add your own drives to it. Best drives out there are probably Hitachi or Segate drives with 8 mb cache specs.
