Reconnect/Search not finding media….
Having an annyoance, not mission critical.
We’re working on a large project, one copy of the media resides on our XSAN. Another lives on some firewire drives at the main editor’s house. If he cuts a scene and emails an XML: I open it here but the Search function in Reconnect Media won’t find the files – even specifying that the Xsan is the only location to look in. I can use Locate and manually find them because all the media is a clone.
Could be a problem with FCP searching as it relates to an XSan volume…?

Is the outside editor also using FCP? if so, I’d think I’d just have him send the project file and not XML… Then try relinking to the files from his “original” sequence.
If he changes the names of the master clips, you’ll find this doesn’t work in any event. Using renamed subclips is OK, but I’ll wager that the info needed within these subclips to reconnect to original master clips may be getting lost in the XML export… dunno fur sure, but figure something like this is going on.

It seems to be a problem with the Xsan file system and non-Unix friendly filenames. For instance, a file named “a03/b03” is showing up in Search as “a03:b03” Even though if you open a Finder window it shows up with the ‘/’
Funny enough, though, if we shoot XML’s across stations on the XSan, they have no problem with wacky filenames.

Might be prudent to quit using forward slashes in clip names because OS X thinks these are path names… Could be part of the problem relinking for sure.
