How are your media drives formatted? Mac OS Extended?
This sort of sounds like a systemic error, and not an FCP error per se… i.e. your directories on the media drives are getting corrupted…

Is the old media still online? If not that’s the problem… Media Manager expects the media to be online when deleting unused media is used to create a new offline sequence.

You also need to turn on the option to “delete unused media”…

ARE they offline? i.e. are the QT movies or whatever once there, not there anymore? or are you just losing the connection to them?

mmmmmmm…. I’ve been OK with 2.5 gigs, but not working at all in HDV (my experience here is near nada, but getting ready to really have to deal with it at the school), which is what the poster intends to do… Does HDV use a lot more than say DVCPRO100 or Uncompressed HD?

Excellent idea… see if you need more. I’m running with 2.5 gigs, and feel the need for more, but also running a lot of apps at the same time. You can always add more as you need it too.

Buy the Quad, but only after you’ve heard how it’s working with FCP 5.x… I’d imagine that there are a few of the 2.3’s in use already, and if they are OK, I’d wager to guess that the quads will too.
It will work for years I’ll wager. Apple has no reason to make a version of FCP that will run on ONLY a pentium chipped computer. They wouldn’t be selling a lot of FCP upgrades if they did that. Rather, during this transition period I’d “GUESS” that they would come up with a version that runs on both, profiling the machine during install to install the proper code for it… Bet I’m right about this, but know this is pure speculation, but comes from the belief that Apple is in this for a buck or two right?

Mama always said you cannot have too much RAM. That said, it all depends on how many apps you intend to run at the same time. Motion LOVES RAM so does Photoshop, After Effects… etc…
