I think it is a bit on the hot side for the gear. But they do seem to get hot even if it’s 72 degrees.
Might consider what Walter B. did… put it in an enclosed space like a mini closet he built, then he ran an A/C duct right to the space.

Actually MM does a fine job of this. If you use copy instead of recompress, you can check the copies before you delete the originals.

An audio mix down performed from the sequence render submenu doesn’t do anything but create a render file which has mixed the tracks down. Your separate tracks remain in the sequence, and can be exported separately later.

No, I said that it was most likely the speed of your drives keeping you from doing that much RT.

What’s the format of the video you are shooting? DV should just be compatible, but HDV from JVC requires Lumiere HD to work with FCP or FCE. https://www.lumierehd.com

Try mixing the audio down. The more real time you do, the faster the drives need to be. Most dropped frames are due to the drives not being able to keep up with the demand. Mixing down the tracks and rendering unrendered effects will ease the demand… or faster drives of course.
Keep all the media on that G-Raid too. It’s your best shot at not dropping frames.

Connect the camera via FireWire with it powered down. Then turn it on using the VTR or VCR mode. In the View Menu select Refresh A/V devices. Select the easy setup for HDV that matches what you shot. If this fails, try iMovie, and if that fails, try another FW cable. Sometimes just trashing preferences and restarting the mac with the camera connected and powered up brings it all back too.
If all the above doesn’t work. You have a hardware or software install problem somewhere. FW ports are touchy and don’t like powered up drives or cameras/decks connected to them NEVER do this.
There’s a PMU switch you can push on your motherboard too to reset the power management system wide to see if that’s the problem. Must have your computer unplugged from power first though.
If all of this fails… you might try reinstalling QT 7 using this method: https://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301852 and if that doesn’t work… you have a hardware problem most likely… hopefully it’s not the camera’s port… that’s way expensive to fix. The mac you have is a tower or an iMac? If an imac that’s a new motherboard waiting to happen… can’t add a FW card to it like a tower could.

Ya know what I do? I say I’ll keep the media for a month. Then, if they don’t want to buy the drives, I tell them i cannot afford to keep them online, and that means they’d have to pay for a recapture. They ALWAYS buy the drives. I’ve a lot of FW drives here full of client media and they STILL save a ton of bucks over all. One of the projects is in DV and takes up about 3 250 gig drives. It cost them about a grand. The recapture would take about a week… Plus they can just call me up and have another master made for a lot less than if I had to recapture. They keep the tapes I hate tapes… Their project files are keep locally, and they have a copy and so does my iDisk.

Use 720 X… whatever you need. Then if the roll is over black, lower the opacity to say 95 or so and make sure the color is all legal, and also put a layer of Noise generated from the Generator’s button in the Viewer. Lower it’s opacity to 2. You won’t see it, but the codec will and the render will look a bunch smoother. DV and moving graphics over black is one of the hardest things to make look good I think. But the above is what I’ve used now for a long time and have much better results over all…
Don’t use FCP to resize anything with the file either. It won’t do nearly as well if it’s the right size in the first place.
