True indeed! But if every clip was a master clip…

The faster processor will save time in render times… so in 3 years of it… it pays possibly.

Buy the RAM from Apple this time… it’s not much more than Crucials… And you only deal with one company for warranty that way.

The SATA question is a lot more “touchy”… internal SATA’s not part of an array will do 8 bit uncompressed and lower only… HDV? yes. DVCPROHD, yes… uncompressed 10 bit or uncompressed HD? NOPE… you need an array for that. Stripping 3 of them internally may not give you enough speed for uncompressed 10 bit HD.

You only need one card to run BOTH of those monitors. I’d buy the Radeon, because Motion, Photoshop, Arpeture will all benefit from it, and running Two displays cuts the VRAM in half using one card…

    Next time use more light?

You could use a touch of blur to smooth out the noise, but of course you’ll also lower the resolution… I’ve never seen software that reduces noise that was in the image to tell you the truth… I have seen software to match MORE noise though.

I’d use the 10 bit uncompressed sequence if you intend to edit it with other 10 bit material….

  • It shouldn’t have happened. Make sure you’re running the latest drivers for the Kona… 2.0? I think?

If all else fails, mix down your audio, or export a self contained QT movie and lay that file to tape. Easier for the system to do this.

    Fraid not.

Might be easier though to do this in a text editor in an EDL… then reimporting that into FCP for recapture.

One thing though, if you use the same deck and system for recapture, you probably shouldn’t change the TC because it will recapture the wrong code again unless you also offset the device control settings for that machine.

  • It makes a clip independent of other instances of the clip… i.e making a clip independent in the timeline, then changing it’s name, wouldn’t change the master clip’s name it came from in the browser.

No extra media created, just the relationship between it and any other “affliate” clips is lost.

    OH YES…

Now airport security will not allow Mac’s on airplanes… you might be a computer terroist.

Well, first thing to do is upconvert the HDV to DVCPROHD… then use your best judgement as to color matching. I really find that the color correction window arrangement with the Frame viewer and video scopes helps. You’ll not get the HDV to look as good as the Varicam though, probably can get color to look similar but… ya get somethin for that extra 60 grand…
