If you don’t need to deliver tape, you might find it still works OK in a QT movie or web stream if the problem is that it’s just dropping frames. Is the message to warn you showing up or have you turned off the warning? Just sounds to me like dropping frames.
That said, what codec is the timeline set to be and what codec is this footage that stutters? Do they match? If not, you might try transcoding the source to the same codec and frame rate etc that the sequence is set to. DV? or?
Next question is what are you using as the scratch disk for the source footage? Shouldn’t be your startup disk.

I should have read this closer. You can’t launch FCP from a different drive other than the one it’s installed on… i.e., there’s more to the app than the icon in the apps folder…
If you can’t launch it from the apps folder on your startup disk, then you likely need to perform a clean install if trashing preferences didn’t work.
When you installed studio, did you did you install it on a clean startup disk? As in, a fresh new OS install? if not that’s likely a problem unless the machine was new (thus containing a clean install from the factory).
It’s highly recommended by the folks here to start with a fresh startup disk. If the OS isn’t totally clean all sorts of weird things can show up.
Things like OS upgrades (normally not updates) say from going from 10.5 to 10.6 etc, should be done as an erase and install on a new or used startup disk.

I’m sure you mean when you type cmd+j to change the speed.
In the window that opens, there is an option to ripple the sequence. If it’s on, and you change the speed to say 50%, the length of the new clip will be twice as long as it was before. If it’s off, you’ll see the behavior you’re reporting. So it’s a setting, and actually a feature, because you can have the behavior be either way.

Save the project file after you’ve done the logging and before you batch capture.

You’re talking about adding a clip marker – only one can be added per frame within a clip. Tom is asking about 2 sequence markers on the same frame, which you cannot do.
When you export a sequence, only the sequence (Timeline) markers would be part of the XML that Tom’s after.

Your problem is likely that the sequence settings don’t match the clip’s properties you’re putting in it… i.e, they have to match, or rendering ensues.

Trash the three red and white icon’d files in this path: User/preference/FCP user data/ Then see if it won’t launch.

FCP only shows you one field at a time. That’s why you can’t see what the QT movie reveals. If you set your canvas in FCP to be 100%, you’ll see the problems there…
