  • [mark harvey] “You can flip the media by selecting the face track and choosing the flip method.”
could you clarify in more detail the steps to accomplish this. Don’t i have to make a New composition to do this in?

    thanks

  • Thanks for the advice and steps to take. The 25 minute clip took 2 hours to render in Media 100 to reverse it and then 5 hours in RED to flip it, but it worked perfectly. This is a very powerful capability I have available to me and I am now aware of it.

    thanks,
    Jerome

April 17, 2006 at 5:25 pm in reply to: Capturing video with ADVC-300 into Media100

When I have the firewire from the Canopus ADVC-300 into the Media 100 port, I get the message,

“ADVC-300 can not be found please check if the power is on and the unit is connected to your Mac, and restart the application”.

When I connect the ADVC-300 to the Mac port the viewer for the unit works properly and I can make all the adjustments on the quality of the video. But, it is not being captured by any program.

Solution set-up. the VHS analog signal is fed into the front of the ADVC-300. From the back of the unit the output firewire goes into the Mac and the analog outputs go out to my normal path to media 100.
So, I can make adjustments onscreen using the Picture controller for the ADVC-300 when I am happy with the adjustments, I then switch to digitize mode in Media 100 and the corrected video is viewed and digitized.

The firewire connection is what I see when using the ADVC-300 and the S-video analog connections are what is seen and received by Media 100.

Thanks for helping see an alternative set up

  • [Lawrence Marshall] “compress it to Motion JPEG B, which is essentially what Media 100’s codec is, but your client won’t need the trancoder to read it.”

I chose this option and it worked great.

    thanks everyone for your input!

  • They want to be able to edit on a PC in After Effects so they will need a file format like AVI or QT. I finally got the program to export as a .MOV. I was going to put it on a DVD as QT but the program is 4.31 GB and the DVD says it only has 4.28 GB available. So, it has to be compressed a bit. I have Quicktime Pro but don’t know how to conpress with it.

Is there other settings I could use to Export from the Edit suite and get it to be a smaller file?

  • [mark harvey] “make sure that render fields as frames is also checked.”
I have RED 2.5.2 and it does not have “render fields as frames” it has “Better quality field rendering” instead.

I took a photo and scanned into Photoshop at 2160 x 1458 then selected and pasted it to a 720 x 534 with a 72 resolution. I saved to the desktop.

then I imported it into a Bin in Media 100. I made a new composition in Boris, I imported the photo in from the desktop and then I did another composition and imported it from the Bin using the Bin Browser. I rendered them both on the timeline in Media 100.
the photo brought into Boris from the desktop is better than the one brought in from the Bin.

I also brought the photo in from the camera into a Bin and then into Boris. It looks just lilke the one coming from inside the Media 100 bin.

What is the BEST way to take a photo that is only 3″x5″ and use Boris to do a pan and zoom?

    thanks

  • Thanks for the response but I do not follow your directions.

“Firstly check the field dominance of the imported track – this can be done by dropping down the track and clicking on the “face” track, the field order should come up in the settings window.”

The Face track has a a drop down of Mask and Media. I do not see a settings window.

“Also check the local project settings of the Preferences pane. There’s a setting called “better quality field rendering” – try with this on or off and see if it makes a difference.”

    Where is the Preferences pane?

“Lastly are you rendering within media100, (i.e. applying the effect and returning to media 100 and then rendering) or exporting from RED? I find that rendering from within Media 100 saves time and often looks better.”

I am applying the effect and then returning to Media 100 to render.

February 7, 2006 at 6:27 am in reply to: What lights are best for photomontage captures?

    Thanks Frank,

I went to HomeDepot and bought the Phillips Halogena 50 watt indoor/outdoor flood lights with the long neck. they are really bright. I had to set the shutter at 250 to deal with that. They seem to be too much of a spot light, even though they are a flood. When I put an 8X10 under the set up the light is really focused instead of spreading. I think I will take them back and try something else.
