It is not made to work on xp 64 bit. That is not a supported OS. You will need to upgrade to Vista 64 or better yet, Windows 7 64 to have a working install.

I know that is not the answer you wanted to hear, but that is what Sony states.

I would consider it best practice to have one drive for rendering, one for your captured media to reside on, one for your OS and programs. You may not need a swap file or if you do, you can always move it to another drive if it appears to be slowing down access times(but I would make sure it is not your capture or render drives).

As far as moving your temp folder for Vegas, I would not worry about doing that. You should be just fine leaving it in its default directory. If you just have extra hard drives that you want to incorporate, then definitely feel free to move it to another one. 🙂

Is the “hours” that you are waiting time that is spent building the peaks? Is it loading OFX plugins? If so, are you using Vegas Pro 10b or c? Those updates should speed up the OFX loading.

Hi Peter,

Thanks again for hanging with me on this one. I understand what you are saying about the nested veg file, but surely this was never the intention of the BorisFX team as a method of implementation. I would think this to be more of a work around.

Regardless, I have a question in with one of the guys who works with them and am waiting a response on the intended workflow. It could just be that the limitations of Vegas do not allow for the straight-forward workflow of this particular unit.

Okay, we are doing the same thing. However, what happens when you split the clip where the black frames start and the “optically flowed” media ends? What happens on my end is that the optical flow fx does the math yet again and shortens the clip by the same amount resulting in an even shorter clip and more black frames.

How do you effectively remove the black frames without having to render out that portion of your timeline? It would seem logical that you could split the clip and it retain the effect without doing the math again unless you change parameters in the OFX window. I have not found this to be true.

So again, what happens once you split your clip with Optical Flow applied? If you get the same results as I do how should one’s workflow look when using this effect within Sony Vegas?

The formats are not edit friendly. Try converting them to something like Cineform or or mpeg-2 so that way if you re-render you don’t really lose quality (this is true for cineform but only partially true with mpeg-2 as it will not recompress unless you add fx or pan/crop, etc. As long as it is straight cuts it will only recompress those areas or the areas you change for that matter).

If your final format is DVD, then mpeg-2 should be fine unless you are going to be doing a lot of revisions off that file.

As a troubleshooting step, make a new project, place markers on the timeline and see if you can select them all and move them. If so, we need to figure out what is “locking” your markers in this particular project. If not, then we need to figure out if you have a corrupt install of Vegas 9 or if you need to upgrade to the latest version of 9.

I just set up a test file and used cd track markers (the n shortcut key). I made 5 sets and selected the first and shift selected the last. I clicked and held the mouse button down on the first track marker and moved it left and right and dropped it a few seconds down the timeline. All the rest moved with it.

Are your tracks embedded in your audio file? Can you upload a screenshot of your timeline?
