Activity Forums VEGAS Pro Won’t Play In Editor

I am using Vegas Pro 10 to edit security footage, which is recorded in .asf format. I convert it to either WMV or MP4 before putting it in the editor.

The footage comes from a variety of cameras, so the frame rate and resolution vary. Some are high def and some are just awful.

The problem is that I can’t get any of the footage to play in the editor. If I click on a spot in the timeline it will show up correctly in the preview window, but it will not let me play what I am editing. When rendered it plays back fine.

    Any ideas?

The formats are not edit friendly. Try converting them to something like Cineform or or mpeg-2 so that way if you re-render you don’t really lose quality (this is true for cineform but only partially true with mpeg-2 as it will not recompress unless you add fx or pan/crop, etc. As long as it is straight cuts it will only recompress those areas or the areas you change for that matter).

If your final format is DVD, then mpeg-2 should be fine unless you are going to be doing a lot of revisions off that file.
