Playback is directly tied to the speed of your processor. The video card does not matter one bit when it comes to Vegas. You never stated what quality you had your preview set to. You may want to bump it down to preview or full auto or half.
An alternative would be to do a RAM preview- you can do this by seting a selection to loop and it will automatically build the ram preview for as much ram as you have allotted. Depending on the complexity of the file/fx you may only be able to do 5 seconds or 45 seconds or more.

Look under “Custom” in project properties. You should also be able to right click the media file (outside of Vegas) and utilize “Open with…” and choose Vegas. Vegas should recognize the file properties.

I’m not sure, but why not do that later- just buy another hard drive (cheap on http://www.dealnews.com) and format that to NTSF if it isn’t already and use it. Once you are done with the project you are working on, take everything off that hard drive that you wish to keep and then do the conversion and see if the other things are still there afterwards.

On the left, bottom side of the timeline (where the track headers are) there is s slider with a yellow triangle type icon. Move that icon and it will play the timeline at the rate shown. If you simply want to do it temporarily (for a few seconds, just move what is directly above the yellow icon and once you let go it should snap back to the yellow icon.

No increase in file size. It does show that you need to record at a higher volume level though as you will most likely get a hum when you normalize if it increases the loudness a lot.

What file format are you encoding into? Try one that is compressed such as avi dv or mpg-2. Both of these should be readable by the Flash converter.

It sounds like the recording level may have been really low. If you right click on the audio event and press “H” and then “N” that will normalize it. It may not give desired end effect, but it should give you a wave form to go by. If after editing you want to undo this, just select the audio events that were normalized to begin with and right click and press h and n again.

They won’t let you click because there is now no “selection”. Once you got rid of your selection (the blue line with the yellow ends) that option is no longer viable. Once you make another selection that option will be selectable (or unselectable) as it is then an option.

When you go to “File” and select “Render As” that screen has several options on it. Towards the bottom will be checkboxes. One of those will have this option.

I am unsure about restrictions on the trial, however, when you choose to encode your file (render) go to File–>Render As and choose a template that is High Definition or HDV depending on your desired output. Then you can click the custom button and tweak to your heart’s content.
If you want to ensure your timeline is in HD, change your timeline properties to match your files (they should match to begin with). It is the white sheet icon on your toolbar.
