I’m using the trial version, is that the cause?

I import HD files – some of which are 300MB each. When I render to MPG, I get LOW LOW LOW quality, and it doesn’t render to HD screen size.

I’m totally new at this. What’s the issue? How do I set up preferences to output high quality, high def?

    Thanks!

I am unsure about restrictions on the trial, however, when you choose to encode your file (render) go to File–>Render As and choose a template that is High Definition or HDV depending on your desired output. Then you can click the custom button and tweak to your heart’s content.

If you want to ensure your timeline is in HD, change your timeline properties to match your files (they should match to begin with). It is the white sheet icon on your toolbar.
