I have a 60 minute talking head video that was recorded with a lavaliere mic and sounds pretty good.

But when I look at the audio track for wave forms on the spoken words, there are a few blips on words that are more emphasized, but most of the words have no wave form at all – just flat line.

I would love to have wave forms on each word to aid me in cutting unnecessary words.

Is there something I can do to achieve this?

    Many thanks!

It sounds like the recording level may have been really low. If you right click on the audio event and press “H” and then “N” that will normalize it. It may not give desired end effect, but it should give you a wave form to go by. If after editing you want to undo this, just select the audio events that were normalized to begin with and right click and press h and n again.

Awesome tip! That seems to give me nice wave forms and a louder signal.

I imagine I will leave it like that. Any reason I wouldn’t?

    Will it increase file size?

    Many thanks!

No increase in file size. It does show that you need to record at a higher volume level though as you will most likely get a hum when you normalize if it increases the loudness a lot.

Great! Thanks. It works just as you say and I needed to undo it after I worked with it. (This file was converted from a 10 year old VHS tape, so I am happy to have this tool.)
