Yes it does. If you, or your client doesn’t care about how it looks, then no- save it however you wish. But you want to make sure that if your source footage is NTSC and 29.97fps that your final is the same unless you prepare it for 24p. On the other hand if it is PAL, you will want to make sure that your output is Pal.

If you want some sort of quality, it does matter.

I wouldn’t think so. If you are using titles and the like in your project, set your project settings to your HD render settings (what you intend to render this thing out at). That way, your titles and text will be at HD quality and will not undergo uprezz’ing.

My 2 cents: I would explain to the customer that it will not look as good in HD as it will in SD as the source footage is SD. They should have asked for HD on the front end. But, they are your clients and you handle it how you feel best.

  • To delete the audio, click on the event in the timeline and press the “u” key on your keyboard. This will ungroup the audio and video streams. Now you can click the audio and press the delete key and the audio will no longer be there.

To add mp3’s and other audio, open up the folder they are in (in Windows) and drag the file to an audio track on the timeline. The same is true with the sound fx.

SoundForge does not have to be used.

The sound fx are on a separate cd I believe. I don’t have it.

What is the source footage? If it is 1440×1080 then use that template for rendering.

If you import the footage into Vegas, it is usually smart enough to make your project settings the same as your initial footage that is placed on the timeline.

Vegas will do best if the project properties match the footage’s properties that is on the timeline.

If your footage is only standard definition, then edit in standard. If you are going to pass off standard definition as high definition, you will probably need to use the sharpen filter and then output to 1280×720 as it won’t look as odd as if you had a higher resolution output.

I basically want to shrink my existing .mov files, though I am kind of siding towards .avi conversion because I will be sharing these videos with family and friends.

If you want to shrink… and your footage is 720, you may want to consider encoding to them to mpeg-2 files. The quality will be there but you will lose a lot of file size.

Avi is just a wrapper. Any codec can be placed in the wrapper. So unless they have the right codec on their machine, there is no guarantee that your avi files will play on their machine(s).

You should also consider a second encode to something like flash or wmv. If you are sharing these with people who have a Windows based computer, they all should e able to play a wmv file as that is a windows media file.

Also, take a look here for youtube settings: Youtube Settings

Can you take a portion of a file that has both audio and video (5 seconds or so) and upload it somewhere where I can download it and see what I get when I put it on the timeline. I know other Vegas users have this camera and have not had the issue you are having.

Can you tell me how you are getting the footage from your camera to your computer? Can you also tell me how you are getting the footage to the timeline (from the project media? From a folder in windows? Right clicking the file and telling it to open with Vegas?).

    Thanks.

  • If you are wanting to do bluray- try using the mpeg-2 template in Vegas and render out to any of them that are HDV or HD that most closely match your settings. If you want to keep your file as avchd, then I can’t really help you as I have yet to work with it (I have HDV cameras and find them easy enough to work with on the timeline).

If you stick with the mpeg-2 HDV templates or HD templates, DVDA should not ask you to reencode. It should be compliant. However, you will need to encode your audio separate- it will need to be AC3 to be compliant.

Again, just try a little 3-5 minute snippet and test with that so that way you don’t waste time rendering something that may or may not work- TEST FIRST!!!!! 🙂

Let me know how it goes.

  • You’re file looks completely fine to me- a lot of menus and files but fine.

If you have a minute (and a spare bluray disc you don’t mind using) give it another go, but this time without a menu and with only one video stream and one audio stream.

In Vegas go ahead and make your chapters there and save them in the file as metadata (when you choose render as it will give you a check box at the bottom that asks if you want to include markers). It doesn’t need to be but 5 to 10 minutes long and put as many markers as you want (up to 99) but they must be more than 1 second apart or else you are outside of the standard set up for bluray and dvd.

Once rendered, open it in an new dvd project (in DVDA go to File and choose New. Under New choose Single Movie and set your spec’s accordingly). Now make sure the markers are there on the timeline and then burn that to a bluray disc. Give it a try and see how that plays on the PS3.

Please report back here. If it does the same thing, if you are able to zip that project up (files and all) send it to me, I’ll burn it and give it a go on my ps3.

Maybe I am misunderstanding. You are splitting your events (what you termed clips) on the timeline yes? Find a section you want to keep and push the “s” key on the keyboard to “slice” the footage at that point. Then “s” again when you have found the end of that part of the event. You can then click the rest of the event (if you are done with it and don’t want anymore portions of it) and press delete. The captured media will still be in your project media but it will not be on your timeline.

Maybe that is what you were talking about?

July 28, 2009 at 9:06 pm in reply to: Type in preview window looks chunky in Vegas 9

It probably is. Vegas 9pro uses a different method for previewing than different versions. I would wager that if you dragged one of the corners of the preview window to make it either smaller or larger, you would see the quality of the text change.

Give this a try or disable this new feature in Vegas 9 (it makes it so that you get the best playback for the media that is populating the timeline and adjusts accordingly).
