January 7, 2010 at 6:23 pm in reply to: HDV and Nikon DSLR footage glitching in vegas 9Are you using 9.0c? Also, if you are using 32bit see if it occurs in the 64bit version of Vegas. If it doesn’t, it sounds like a memory handling issue in one way.
In your Task Manager what do you see that is using your cycles? What about your page file usage? Does it steadily climb as you render or have your project open? Is your virus protection/spyware, etc. off? Anything else running in the background that could be leaching memory?

1. What do you perceive as the advantage of using Vegas to make a slideshow? This will help us to help you as it would seem easier/better suited to use a powerpoint type product for this.
2. If you are wanting to output it, just use the “render as” and choose wmv as the option. You can then choose custom and change the bitrate, dimensions, etc.
3. If these are still pictures and not slides, you could add some music and use a program such as UltimateS pro (free 15 day trial) to easily give your production a pan/scan effect. What could take hours only takes a few seconds and then you can tweak from there if needed.
I hope this was helpful, but if you are wanting to do text and bullet point items, I would recommend sticking with a slide show program.

December 24, 2009 at 2:59 pm in reply to: Sony Vegas rendered video not as smooth as orig 60i .MTS fileWhat do you mean by smooth? You mean the playback of the file is choppy?
Do this, render it out to 29.97 fps using the Main Concept HD or HDV setting (you didn’t say what your original file is). See if that is smooth enough for you.
Something else to consider is that your computer may not be fast enough to decode the file on the fly and play it at full frame rate- especially if you are attempting to play it at 60 frames per second.

December 24, 2009 at 2:56 pm in reply to: Sony DVD Architect doesnt list my DVD Drive as a Burn optionLook in your Device Manager to see exactly what it is and what driver you are using for it. Open up a ticket with https://www.custcenter.com/cgi-bin/sonypictures.cfg/php/enduser/ask.php‘>Sony Creative Software providing that information to them.
In the past I had a similar issue and they sent me some .dll’s that allowed DVD-A to see my drive.

One other idea: Make a image in your image editor of choice (preferably a png format set at 72dpi and the same resolution as your project) and number it and save it. Change the number and save. Change the number and save. Change… you get the idea.
Once you have 300 images saved you never have to do this again. Now just go into Vegas and open up the folder in the explorer tab and drag them all to the timeline. Now just place your events in between them.

I don’t know of a way to do this unless someone can figure out a way to script it (but I don’t think a script can populate generated media).
A question: Why not use the “m” key to place a marker between each event/clip. They are numbered in consecutive order up to 99. I understand you had 300 events on your last one- you could burn them as 4 different menu items with the first 3 menu items containing 99 events each and the fourth containing 3 events.
This may not be what you want, but it is a WHOLE lot faster than the method you are currently using and each marker will coincide with your chapter display on your DVD player.

Buy some Taio Yuden discs or Verbatim discs (I hear Verbatim is good but I only use Taio Yuden Watershield discs) and give those a go. Some discs are more reliable than others and Taio Yuden’s are at the top of the list.
Also, some of the older DVD players may not play as nice with burned media.

December 23, 2009 at 8:38 pm in reply to: Building Peaks works in 32-bit NOT 64-bit. Why?Delete your .sfk files (they should be in the same directory as your M2T files. This will force Vegas to rebuild your peaks when you open that project again. Now, open it in 64 bit first and let it build the peaks. It may have just been a quirk as mine builds peaks just fine.
The advantage to Vegas 64 is that you are not restricted to ~3gigs of ram like you are for the 32 bit version (like all 32 bit software). You can have as much as your system can handle and it will use it. This is good for long projects or projects that are memory intensive.
The downside is that your 32 bit only fx will not work in the 64 bit version and Cinescore will not work as a plugin in the 64 bit version.
