Anyone using Vegas for slideshows from stills only? I have a lecture to give and was going to give it a try. So my question is, How should I render it? Are any of the output codecs RGB? I was planning to show it via Windows Media Player.

    Thanks for the advice.

    1. What do you perceive as the advantage of using Vegas to make a slideshow? This will help us to help you as it would seem easier/better suited to use a powerpoint type product for this.

    2. If you are wanting to output it, just use the “render as” and choose wmv as the option. You can then choose custom and change the bitrate, dimensions, etc.

    3. If these are still pictures and not slides, you could add some music and use a program such as UltimateS pro (free 15 day trial) to easily give your production a pan/scan effect. What could take hours only takes a few seconds and then you can tweak from there if needed.

I hope this was helpful, but if you are wanting to do text and bullet point items, I would recommend sticking with a slide show program.

I have used many slideshow programs and usually use Proshow but I was just looking for a good excuse to get more “Vegas” time, especially working with stills and certain effects.

The usual suggestion for photos is to limit the size to about twice your video output resolution. I always use Photoshop to crop photos to the correct pixel dimensions, and save them as PNGs. That insures that letterboxing is avoided, and PNGs seem to be easily handled by Vegas.
