What kind of drives are playing/capturing to? Where does the music file reside?

I am no web expert, but I believe this would have to be done on the streaming/web side. You said that you post the movies to an ftp site, usually that is download only (not a streaming server). Even though your client is using their browser to download & play the movie within the browser, they still are just downloading none the less. I believe you would need to set it up on some sort of streaming server, or encode it in an unsavable format like real player. If they are worried about it being copied/distributed, you can always watermark it with a still image right there in cleaner.

With a fast RAID you’ll get some nice real time with FCP in SD, but not full blown HD. FCP does not do real time keys, but it will do some real time fx & filters. There are no real time alpha movies, prepare yourself for that, but with the latest g5s your render speeds are pretty fast.. It will do real time CGs (titles) and psd overlays. You will get some real time animation/motion depending on how complex your moves are, and as walter said, how many filters/fx you have stacked on each clip. It doesn’t work as fast as tightly integrated software/hardware machines (such as Media 100 HD), but FCP does very well for the price point. Also, you know very well that FCP is in constant development so it is surely to get faster with updated feature sets. Also, you cannot beat the interface. Adolfo is right, find a reseller and set up a demo.

What are your system specs? G4, G5? Capture card? Media drives? Anything else hooked up to your machine? Sounds like a configuration issue. Give us some more to work with and we’ll try to help.

At this time, I don’t think it accelerates anything else, except the upcoming HDV in FCP5. Qrez is (still) a no go. It seems like it might be a cool thing, but we’ll see if it even happens. I read the tight integration of the low bandwidth DVCPRO HD in FCP killed the idea, but don’t quote me on that. I’m sure if AJA deems Qrez worth it, they will release it after going through their qc. The 1200A is my only option as well, I guess we’ll both suffer.
But do use the HD-SDI input, you’ll be much happier. Also, I noticed that digitizing in uncompressed HD off of DVCPro HD tape looks a little smoother as well, but this significantly adds hardware cost to your system in the name of a fast RAID.

this is a point that has been argued time and time again on this forum and others, but i think you’ll find more favorable results ingesting DVCPRo HD over the HD-SDI. Be aware that with the 1200A you cannot layoff a frame accurate master. you can come close using the firewire control and HD-SDI input.
My personal tests show that the signal coming off of the HD-SDI appears to be a little cleaner. people will argue technically how this is impossible, but it seems to be true. I think it has to be with some smoothing that happens coming out the HD-SDI ports that you don’t get with firewire.

See, I has a hunch it was only supported through a firewire connection, but perhaps companies like AJA can tap into that functionality making it possible to view photoshop out of their hardware. The future is now.

In that case, Thax gave some good advice about keeping two versions (interlaced and deinterlaced). I would keep your DVD at full interlaced quality and make different ‘progressive’ versions as needed. Also, getting an application like cleaner or sorensen squeeze will help in that process. Cleaner works great, but I don’t think it’s being developed for the mac any longer. Also, cleaners MPEG-2 compression for the mac is unusable. Sorensen squeeze has all the same feature sets as cleaner (and more) but I find it’s a lot harder to get the settings right. Good luck and please post anymore questions.

If I’m not mistaken, CS2 supports video out, but I’m not sure of the limitations of this. Or do as Jared says and use the Kona2’s extended desktop feature.
