A little more info might help you get an answer. What version software and OS are you on? Is this a new system that you just set up? Or is this an old system that used to work fine and now this problem has suddenly occurred?

If you just set up the system then it might be the way you’re monitoring the output of FCP. Are you looking at the canvas video, or an external NTSC monitor?

sorry for the lack of info. I am running FCP HD 4.5 I am on a Power Mac G5 on osx 10.3.9. I am viewing the video through my canvas. I never noticed this issue before, but I do alot of music videos and dont really use the audio from the shoot, just the studio track.

What kind of drives are playing/capturing to? Where does the music file reside?

I’m you’ve done this already, but quiting and re-opening FCP. I’ve only experienced sync problems when working with HD uncompressed footage and this usually solved the problem. Also, turn off the external video playback option.

Sorry I cannot be of more help.

Here’s the problem: likely you are not set up properly.

Hook up your FCP system the way it should be. Most folks wrongly work w/o a video monitor. Furthermore, they plug in the speakers to the Mac–this is wrong, they should be set up out of the DV deck or DV Camcorder.

Thanks, but I think the problem has to do with capturing, when teh clips are captured they are out of sync, then i have to move the audio tracks aroudn to sync them up. Could it be something with capturing with a panasonic dvx 100?

You said that when you view the clips in QT Player, they’re fine. So it’s not a capture problem.

I have the same sync problem in FCP 5, but it’s something that happens suddenly when working in a timeline. Everything’s fine, then some editing maneuver throws the audio off by about six frames, permanently. The audio is ahead of the video from then on, everywhere in the timeline. The problem exists when I listen to the audio directly from the computer and view the video on the canvas OR on an external monitor through an Aja Io.

I thought I had found a way to jolt FCP back into sync by exporting the project to XML and then importing it back. That worked once, but it hasn’t worked since.

So far I’m stumped as to how to solve this. It’s a playback problem, though; if you export your sequence to QuickTime from FCP, you’ll find it’s really in sync.
