Over at the sondtrack forum, this has been a documented problem. If you digitize your clips in one big chunk, stp will only allow you to work on the the whole chunk, np pieces. If you learn of a different way to do it, please post back as I will do the same.

Walter’s right. It’s a bit of a trick though.

Put a slug in your timeline and give it the motion blur you want (90). Go to the modify menu and select the make favorite motion effect option (or hit option-f). You will notice in your favorites folder in the effects tab there will be a clip named Slug (motion). rename it Motion blur 90 or something like that. Double click the clip so it loads into the viewer. hit copy (apple-c). Select ALL of the clips in your timeline that you want to add the motion blur for and hit option-v (or select paste attributes from the edit menu). A dialog box will pop up, select the motion blur check box, & presto … motion blur on all of your selected clips.

This is a guess, but razor blade your in & out, export a self contained aiff (‘export audio to aiff’ menu option) and open up that exported clip up in. Then import that clip back into FCP when you are done processing. If you want to make further changes, control click the clip & select the open in editor option (provided that stp is chosen as your audio editor in the preferences). Far from ideal, but I think this will work.

Not sure what you mean by choppy, but there’s a preference to enable high quality scrubbing that’s new to FCP5.

I like the look of FCP5 so far in my testing, I have not completed a project on it from beginning to end however. I feel reasonably confident that I’d be able to get through it though.

I wish I could point you in the right direction for an audio plug in, I am just unaware of one. it doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. If you find one, please post back because I’d be interested as well.

I have not heard of audio plugins for FCP, but it sounds like you have all the right tricks up your sleeve. The round trip from soundtrack pro to fcp is very tight and easy. You should at least consider it, and the process is non-destructive.

If you have FCP5, export to soundtrack pro & normalize there, if not, a copy of Peak Express should have come with your FCP 4 or 4.5. That has a normalize function, but be very clear that Peak is a destructive editor, whatever you change will be permanent. I suggest making a copy of the file you want to change and retain the original in case of problems.

Uncompressed 8 bit or preferably 10 bit. you must have the drive bandwidth to play these back to tape.
