If you have FCP5, export to soundtrack pro & normalize there, if not, a copy of Peak Express should have come with your FCP 4 or 4.5. That has a normalize function, but be very clear that Peak is a destructive editor, whatever you change will be permanent. I suggest making a copy of the file you want to change and retain the original in case of problems.

I’ve been doing the whole Peak Express trick for a while. It just ends up being time consuming for a problem as simple as low levels. Also doubling up the tracks takes time and clutters my builds. It just seems like there would be a simple solution inside of Final Cut or that someone would have made one.

I have not heard of audio plugins for FCP, but it sounds like you have all the right tricks up your sleeve. The round trip from soundtrack pro to fcp is very tight and easy. You should at least consider it, and the process is non-destructive.

Thanks for the advice. Apple sent us the new Production Bundle but I still have it upstairs. I didn’t want to upgrade with several shows on the system and deadlines all around. The Soundtrack integration might get me to switch faster.

I have an audio pluggin that I downloaded from BIAS in my effects window. I assume others can make them as well. Just no normalizing.

I wish I could point you in the right direction for an audio plug in, I am just unaware of one. it doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. If you find one, please post back because I’d be interested as well.
