You might have to change the rs-422 protocol from Sony to Panasonic. Get in the Device control presets tab of the audio/Video settings preferences. Choose the AJA io: 29.97 NTSC preset, duplicate it, change the name to AJA io: 29.97 Panasonic VTR. In the protocol drop down menu change it from SOny RS-422 to Panasonic RS-422.

Click on the summary tab.

Choose your Capture preset (8 bit, 10 bit, dv , whatever)

Choose your sequence preset (to match your capture preset)

Choose your newly created AJA io: 29.97 Panasonic VTR and click the ‘create easy set up button’

Call it something like AJA io NTSC 8 bit Panasonic VTR, switch out the 8 bit for whatvere codec you are using.

Thanks for the response Walter, but they didn’t show up. I found an earlier post where this happened to someone else as well, it turns out that if you put the 4 plugins in a folder named Boris (in the plugins folder), they will show up. I tired it and it now works.

i would call aja and see if they know the trick to getting the rp-188 out to tape correctly. Otherwise, I’d bill them for the cost of the firewire drive have it sit on a shelf digitally, that way they don’t have to redigitze anyway. It’s the wave of the future anyway. Cowabunga.

Okay, are you getting real time play out with the animation codec?

Don’t use quicktime conversion, use the quicktime movie export with the settings I outlined in my other post. Another thing to check is the original quicktime movies themselves(i think you said you’ve done this) and just make sure that they are at 30fps. Also, when you play a quicktime and hit command-i (to get info) make sure you are reading the movie fps and not the playing fps. The playing fps will be determined on how fast your machine can play the quicktime, the movie fps will be the actual frame rate of the file.

How are you doing the export? Don’t you want 29.97 fps? Your sequence is really set to the animation codec?

You should go to flie>export>quicktime movie

make sure the current settings is selected in the setting drop down menu and the make movie self contained tickbox is checked.

I totally respect your efforts to keep this drive on life support, but I would pull the plug. There’s no reason to risk losing any more time, effort, and perhaps most importantly data.

Why don’t you give them digital files? That way they are 23.98 and close to the original compression. If there’s too much to burn on a dvd-r or four, send them a firewire drive and have them send it back when they are done.
