I own the hdr-Fx1… Whats the best way the emulate 24p because the
cinaframe24 mode isn’t that good. Is there something I can do in post in
Final Cut 5 to fix this? I’ve heard of DV Filmmaker but i really can’t
offord to buy that program…Is there a mathematical solution in FC5?

Emulation of film frame speeds is completely subjective. That’s why there are so many options and weird tools. Tell us what you think you’re trying to emulate.

Just my opinion, but I always shoot the best image possible in the filed and then handle rate conversions and format conversions in post. If you shoot baked-in frame rate using the onboard processing you can never undo it.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”

    Hi bogiesan,

I’m trying to emulate the film frame rate 24fps. A “filmic look” instead of a video look. Whats the best method you have done that in your opinion has been must effective and if you have any test footage of it could you show me? Thanks for the quick reply!

Thanks. Film Effects works great on HDV footage and does indeed look better than the inbuilt CF24 effect. Also, Standards Conversion to 24p works great if you want to edit in a 23.98fps timeline. The gamma curves that come with Film Effects do wonderful things to video footage, and help bring out the richness of film. Try the free demo and see.

I have the Nattress filters and use them with SD uncompressed and
they are great. Can’t speak to the new HDV stuff, but using his
film filter on 30 frame BetaSP footage to make it look like 24p
    is very very good.
