  • Choppiness when scrubbing and fast forwarding through footage in FCP5

Posted by Michael Garber on July 10, 2005 at 1:04 am

When I fast-forward through footage, FCP 5 is very choppy. Anyone else seen this? The thing is, I’m on a dual 2.5 with 8gb of ram and running my footage from a SATA array. The footage is DV. This shouldn’t be a problem.

Yet, it is. While we’re on the subject of FCP 5, has anyone noticed that it’s much choppier than FCP 4.5?

    Thanks,
    Michael

Not sure what you mean by choppy, but there’s a preference to enable high quality scrubbing that’s new to FCP5.

I like the look of FCP5 so far in my testing, I have not completed a project on it from beginning to end however. I feel reasonably confident that I’d be able to get through it though.

Yeah, Once I turned that off, FCP5 felt a lot more like 4.5 did when scrubbing. I think this is exactly what you’re talking about, Michael, give it a try and see what you think.
