It puts is at the end so you know where you are. To get to the head of the clip hit the up arrow. Also, if you learn to trim in the viewer window it makes this process much easier. Believe me, I am a former M100 user and getting used to trimming before putting everything in the timeline is a much different style than M100. Once you learn it, it works well.

Select all of your clips on the timeline (command-a) & Mixdown your audio (option-command-r)

Do some tests, but the best is to try and put the original clips (that you made the speed affected clips from) at the end of your sequence in their entirety and then media manage. Not fool proof, but it seems to work okay. Unnest all of your nested clips as well.

Also, won’t you use an xml to interchange between 4.5 & 5?

You will need an aja kona 2 (for your hd-sdi needs, kona 2 also has analog component out in either sd or hd). For analog in you will need the aja io la. Both work and play nice together.

Blackmagic has the multibridge, but at this point I think it’s still vaporware. they have been having some manufacturing problems.

I have both products and aja has worked best for me. THey have great support and their products work.

Try putting the clip in a nest and dissolve to/from the nested clip (or clips).

you are going to have to scale up the clip, and then save that effect as a favorite motion. Then you need to select all the clips you want to do apply the effect to and drag the favorite effect to the new clips. Or you can add the effect one at a time as you edit them into the timeline.

That’s because the preferences were corrupt. you can also back these up with a little application called fcp rescue (it’s free). that way if the general error happens again, run fcp resuce to restore a working set of preferences.

Hey, no prob. Glad it worked for you. You have just learned how to Low-rez->Hi-rez a project (or offline-online; conform; Uprez; whatever the kids are calling it these days). the only thing you would do different is change your sequence settings to DV50, 8-bit, or 10-bit, whatever you choose to use as an ‘online’ codec. Also, Joe Murray is right, if you decide to use this method, be vary wary of effects, transitions, and super wary of speed effects and nested items. It is wise to unnest your nested items, and you can get around the speed effect problems if you put the original unaffected clip on the timeline in it’s entirety at the end of your program. If you sped up a clip a 10 second clip 80% and the clip is now 2 seconds long, be sure to put the original 10 second clip on your timeline before you do the media managing.

PS Be patient with the Media 100 to FCP migration. once you learn FCP you will be totally fine and moving much faster than media 100.
