I am editing a project using DVCpro 24 (23.98) using a Panasonic HD 1200a deck connected via firewire. The video goes in fine and is fine in the sequence set at 23.98. However, when I try to output back to the deck the picture is always jumping and very distorted, it sort of looks like it is completely out of sync. I have tried checking every setting possible and even changing the firewire cable nothing works. The timeline playback often hangs up when the firewire is attached and is playing back through the deck. Help!

    hi Steve

do you have the “Abort ETT/PTV on dropped frames” setting checked?
if not it could be that you’re dropping frames … perhaps you need to force the audio to render first
try choosing Sequence > Render Only > Mixdown

    hope it helps

Are you watching the playback during recording? If so, you need to view the tape AFTER it’s recorded. There is an issue with the 1200A showing black, out of sync appearing video during record using Firewire. You need to play the video back after it’s recorded to check it.

You might want to check out a posting from August 1st called “Losing Sync during Master to tape” a few lines below this post.

[JeremyG] “Get yourself an HD capture card and monitor though HD-SDI instead of firewire.”

actually, with the Kona 2 you can also monitor via Component which is what I do here.
