Kudos. Glad you got that working. If you have capture hardware this could pose problems as certain hardware drivers require certain versions of quicktime and OSX.

Reed, sounds like it’s up to you. Keeping the systems and version separate has been recommended up and down this forum and others, but do what you wanna.

Not to speak for Jerry, but when you install FCP 5 upgrade it will ask you for your old serial numbers from all applications so have those handy. I did the same thing (installed tiger and fcp 5 on a different drive) and have not looked back. I’m with Jerry that since upgrading, i have rarely booted into 4.5 except to finish my older projects. ALthough, I did not upgrade any projects, I finished what I had in 4.5 and started new ones in 5 and I’m pretty much running 5 exclusively on two machines here. Even though it’s possible to have both versions running on one system, I would recommend keeping them separate.

Get yourself another internal drive and install tiger & FCP5 on that, That way you will have a working 4.5 and a working fcp5 on completely separate drives. That way you will boot into whatever system you need. Trust me, it’ll save you so many headaches. Do not attempt to install both versions on one drive.

That’s because DVCPRO HD native footage is 960×720. It is recorded anamorphic to conserve bandwidth. It’s one the reasons we can now edit HD on laptops. The correct 16:9 aspect ratio is 1280×720. Try exporting your quicktime changing the size to 1280×720.

I would stick with AE, but that’s just me.

There’s some things to check in FCP. First of all, what resolution are you working at?

Make sure that the ‘center’ keyframes in your motion tab begin & end on whole even numbers (such as [10,102] & not [10.87,102.31])

Also, try adding an extremely slight gaussian blur (like 0.3) and see if that smoothes things out a bit.

If you decide to go the AE route and depending on what version of After Effects you have (you need 6 or above), you should be able to type directly in the application (using the text tool, apple-t) and avoid using Illustrator. You could also put a slight vignette on the top and bottom of the screen to give it a nice soft fade away from the bottom and into the top, but that’s a matter of your particular design choice.

YOu need to unlink your video and audio in your ‘offline’ sequence, media manage, then select and relink the audio with the original files, then batch capture the new video.
