I would set a region for the transition, select it, and render to new track (selection only). This speeds up your final render because nesting seems to take so much more time.

Only with ‘render to new track’ which is quite like a nested project.

What you want to do is keyframe the effect. Most effects have a ‘reset to none’, that would be your first keyframe then a few frames later set your next one for the desired effect and then later, another one set back to none. Read up on keyframes in the help file.

  • The initial problem has to do with the limits of pan crop in non-matching aspect ratios.

[Jiaqi] Also, it seems that following your method means that if I want a PIP in a different location, i have to have the small pic on yet a new timeline. Would that be correct?

Yes, kinda, not a new timeline, it must be on a new track above the video it will appear in.

  • Put the graphic on it’s own track, size it in the center, and use track motion (in the track controls, very left of timeline) to position it.

    This should fix your problem.

    Roger,

Drag the little white triangle to the right towards the middle of the event. Then drag the event near a marker or edge of another event. (Make sure Options|Snap to [Grid|Marker|All Events] and Options|Enable Snapping are on.)

It changes the snap-to position of the event.

Pretty cool, now I have to find ways to use it.

What’s your budget? I have 2 systems that work quite well, very different in price range.

  • Gary,

I leave my original footage, project files and final output on an internal raid(0). When each episode is done, I copy all of that to an external raid(5). I copy the finished product to a server. At the end of the season I delete them from my internal and move on. Who knows what will happen when my external is full!

You can have a 9TB raid(5) for about $900. That’s about the price of an inexpensive camera or some lighting gear. Don’t short yourself when it comes to storage, you may want those old files someday.

    Just my 2-cents,

    Jeff
