    Kelly,

Click the video event and look at properties. It should have the rate on it.

  • Gilles,

I don’t know about “sexy or professional”, but I have one little trick that has come in quite handy. I use a font editor to make a new character in a font file. Say my logo is like the “t” for twitter or a chat box figure. I just put that in a font and then I can use all the text tools to animate it and do whatever. In a very short time I can get a flat png file to do quite a bit.

Auto save is configurable: hold down the shift key while opening the options|preferences dialog. There will be a new tab called internal. In the box at the bottom enter AutoSave. Change the value to a shorter interval like 90,000. (1000 = 1 second).

Be very careful in the internal settings!

    Giles,

I don’t want to be a pain in the neck here, but, there is a fundamental difference between the two. You will have a loss of quality by that method.

Think of just one frame. You are zooming in on a picture and then blowing it up to 1080 (loss of quality) and then shrinking that blown-up picture to 720.

The other method of setting projects at 720 means: I have more pixels than required. My zooming acts like a crop and if I stay greater than the output size I will have more pixels than are required to compose the final picture.

But then I am stuck with 1280×720. Oh well, time for a Red-1.

You definitely have a corrupt installation. I’m pretty sure it’s not supposed to operate like that.

I think you might have missed the point. If I will never render higher than 720 I can zoom in on my 1080 video without loss (to a certain extent). If I have zoomed in on my 1080 footage and then render at 1080 I will have a loss of quality.

Which is to say, I can zoom in on 1920×1080 assets, not past my delivery size, and still have good quality. If I zoom in to 720 and then render to 1080, Vegas must stretch to full resolution.

I love those cameras! I have 3 of them, and for quick video you can’t go wrong. I only use them in the field now. I always shot and edited in HD, but I always had an i7 platform to do it on.

Turn off all your filters/plugins while editing and you should be ok.

The 5500 you have set aside is only for “RAM preview”. Set this to 100 unless you are previewing to RAM, otherwise it slows Vegas down, especially during rendering. If you want faster previews turn off effects at the preview screen. I don’t have Vegas in front of me at the moment. You’ll find it!

When you say “5 GB of ram for sony vegas”, what do you mean by this. How do you set this? What is your total RAM?

I wouldn’t say always. If you know your delivery is HDV, then you can use the extra resolution for straightening and reframing your shots, or zooming/panning in post without too big a hit to quality. I do it all the time. When I shoot in 1920 and deliver in 1280, if I don’t crop past 1440 I get excellent results. Give it a try, see what you think.
