    Mike,

At the top of the preview window is an icon of a floppy disk labeled ‘save snapshot to file’. You can take pictures of a frame and compare it to your other work. It helps with consistency.

Drag it in over an event you are working on and use the mute or solo toggles in the track controls.

    Mike,

You should break the project into several smaller projects. Before Wedding, ceremony, travel, reception, etc.

I wouldn’t render each event one to be brought in later. I would only render once, when finished.

I would take ‘snapshots’ of my color correction, so I could maintain consistency in a given environment. (i.e. all the church shots match, the outdoor shots match, and reception shots match.) Save all your color correction fx chains so you can quickly add new events from the same camera/environment.

Plan your work well, so you can render overnight if need be. That processor will be sufficient as long as you don’t expect highly treated events to preview at best quality.

Tell us something about your computer (specs). You should be able to edit just fine if, after applying color correction and whatever, disable the fx in the video preview window, and lower the preview quality. (don’t use good or best.) Some i5 and most i7 machines can handle this.

    Dan,

What Mike said was to do a two pass in VBR, only if you are longer than 70 minutes. If you have stuttering at 8000 Kb, then I would check to see if my renderer is corrupted. Have you ever installed a codec pack?

  • I use layered tracks from Digital Juice. While they are not loops you can re-mix them for the perfect fit. I do this right in Vegas. For two seasons, I have made my intro, go to break, and credits music.

Hold down the control key while you drag the length.

    James,

That’s not what my results found. In fact it’s the opposite. You came a little late to the post, so you should read the whole thing. I have been saying all along that your project settings should be set at your delivery size, allowing you to crop in post to zoomed in sizes up to your delivery size without loss of quality. To set them at the highest resolution forces interpolated pixels when cropped.

I set up a test project using extremes to verify what would happen. With project settings at 4k and I used a 4k test pattern png with text generator over-layed. I zoomed to 1920, 1280, and 720. Then I set the project setting to 1280 and zoomed my 4k bitmap to 720. The results were best when my zoom did not exceed my project setting.

I recommend everyone who is interested, try it and see for yourselves.

  • Gilles,

I use Font creator from https://www.high-logic.com. It’s the only one I know that allows you to paste bitmap graphics and then resize them to fit the character space. Try out a few of the demos, I bought mine years ago and have not bothered to update it.
