Uh, David,

This is the difference between your practices and “What Apple tells you to do.” I’m sure your stuff is ‘good too” the difference is that I’m posting an Apple tech note that normally 99% of people will miss.

Amongst other things, There are specific instructions on permissions and how to handle Motion so it works correctly and keep the old one.

All HD is either upper field or progressive. See what your FCP sequence settings are and match that.

Ok, so let’s take a giant step back. It’s not an obvious problem.

Something isn’t right (and that odd size is bothering me) – so we’re going to look at the whole picture.

At the top of this forum is a list of things that would be helpful:

I’m going to fill some of it out for you.
You’re on a mac, editing in FCP.
You’re using ProRes – which ProRes and what is the size + frame rate?

How are you getting your video out of FCP? Are you exporting as QT conversion, exporting as a QT (Reference or full) or going through Compressor (which Squeeze 7 talks to)?

Which version of squeeze are you using?

You’re compressing to the codec (not filter) h.264 for a flash 9 mp4. What the specific settings you’re using? Are you using a preset (I don’t think you are.) Please test a compression with a preset near your final output, to see if a stock setting works.

Then, let’s hear what you changed in a preset…from that we’ll have some insight.

It’s called a secondary color correction and you use the 3 way color corrector.

If you use the 3 way color corrector, there’s a ‘turn down’ arrow at the bottom. It’s a keyer. You use the eyedropper to pick the ‘red’ then adjust the saturation at the top of the effect (not in the bottom section) to reduce the red values (and only the red values) on the clip.

Yes; you wouldn’t have access to Premiere Pro while the media creation is happening, meaning your system would be locked up working in the encoding process – Adobe Media Encoder is launched, as I understanding it, in the background but you never see it.

No – for the simple reason that DV is a data stream – and it whether it was captured in Premiere Pro or Premiere – it’s the same data.

Hard to say. What version of FCP? Where are you seeing the jumps? FCP? The export? If it’s the export, how did you get it out of FCP and which format/codec.

For example, The Animation codec isn’t really meant for playback – and may appear to jump when it has all the frames.

Stabilization doesn’t matter – you can do it first.

I can argue both ways.

NR done first means more uniform areas; but also means less data for color correction.
CC done first means more data, but a greater chance of inducing noise.
