If your version and System match (yesterday was a release of 5.0.8 to match with 10.6.6) then, I’d do an uninstall/reinstall of MC. That’s the ‘first tier’ response when I’m having a crash with media composer.

I’m assuming that these ProRes Clips were pushed through compressor – the compressor preset for transcoding does pass through audio – leaving you with AAC audio. You’ll have to redo them with Linear PCM, 16 bit, stereo for FCP to work with them in RT.

Yup, Raf nailed it.

Backward compatibility isn’t an FCP thing. By the way, they’re running FCP 4.5 (which for a brief second was called HD).

Export XML (ver 2) to get the project out- they may be able to open the XML (The project) – use the Media Manager to transcode all your HD footage to DVCProHD is the ONLY way you’ll have any compatibility at all.

You went 99% of the way! Take 4A and keep subdividing.

It sounds like one of the renders that came back from color is corrupt. Easy way to ‘generally’ test – dupe 4a, make all of it offline, then export – no general error. If this is the case, then yes, it’s likely a piece of corrupt media.

Probably one file is screwy back from color. You’ll go back to color, re-render and then reconnect.

Probably best to work in HD and upscale the SD. Frame rate changes are harder for FCP than scaling (although you should make sure you change your sequence settings for highest quality for scaling.)

Type in youtube in the search box. you’ll see the preset. It’s an h.264 running around 8mb/s

Cancel out of it.

Reinstall – but DESELECT all the templates/media etc. Get the apps actually installed first, then go back and just install the Motion Templates and media. Then again for STP. Then again for DVDSP. This will get it installed AND point out where your problem is.

P.S. I actually made disk images of the proapps; on the times where I’ve had to reinstall (or install on student systems), the whole install can be done by mounting the disk images; total time is about 50 min.

This may be a dumb question, but is there a reason you’re doing this by hand (setting those specific values) instead of using one of the presets? In Adobe Media Encoder (which is what you get in PPro) The h.264 category has some wonderful presets for youtube and vimeo.

Here’s one you might try–try using the compressor preset for YouTube. It will be an H.264 file, and that 60 min. should fit on a DVD for physical delivery. The smart thing to do would be to test 1 min. of footage for its quality before you go down the full 60 min. path.
