IMPORT file recognized, access denied, error unknown
Greetings,
I’m running Final Cut Studio HD (some call it Final Cut Studio 3) Final Cut Pro version 7.0.3
When provide the files created from a download from a video camera (Canon HV30) to another person running a version of Final Cut Pro HD 4.5 and they cannot IMPORT the MOV files. They get the message :
file recognized, access denied, error unknownSo then I created a H.264 version of the video, and handed that over to the other editor (using FCP HD 4.5) and he could not import that file either.
Does this sound familiar to anyone?
Is it some kind of backward compatibility issue?Thank you,

The only HD supported format on FC 4.5 was (if I’m not wrong) DVCProHD. The codecs you are trying to edit didn’t existed as the time.
So, or they use a newer version of FC, or you give them the files on other codec (DVCProHD, PhotoJPEG) supported by that version.

Yup, Raf nailed it.
Backward compatibility isn’t an FCP thing. By the way, they’re running FCP 4.5 (which for a brief second was called HD).
Export XML (ver 2) to get the project out- they may be able to open the XML (The project) – use the Media Manager to transcode all your HD footage to DVCProHD is the ONLY way you’ll have any compatibility at all.
