Don’t use the ‘quality’ settings. Set the data rate by hand. Oh wait, you have. Yeah, Compressor is a pain for such stuff.

You can do this via a QuickTime Movie setting, go to settings and choose MPEG4 or h.264 (mpeg4, part 10) and have a QuickTime Movie that’s in the mpeg 4 or h.264 codec at whatever data rate you want. Problem: it’s technically a QuickTime MOVie.

Alternatively, you can create a true h.264 file by choosing any of the h.264 options (Apple devices, Blu-Ray and for DVDSP) and have more freedom with data rates.

Y’know, I could be wrong. I read Michael’s post and did the math. I was assuming an HD clip…

I’ll revise my answer to “Maybe” – but no trial and error necessary, just some math. Well, yes, trial and error for quality…but not data rate.

A 45 min piece, at 500 megs, the max total data rate is about 1,500k/sec.

You’d have to be at SD h.264; if you went lower – 320×240 (or 400×300), sure, it’ll upload. That value is CLOSE to a SD side and should be worth trying….keep your audio at AAC, mono, 64kbs,

Add a BCC effect (any) and click the switch “Use TiTle/Matte”

iMovie can’t handle it either. It converts it to AIC – Apple Intermediary Codec

I know you don’t want to hear it. You can’t do this with any tool and ‘maintain high quality’

At that length, realistically, you’re going to have to pay for the Pro features of Vimeo to upload your piece.

I ran your error through google (error 2130932483 + Avid) and got that it may be a DVD Media incompatibility. Try slower media (a 4x burn rather than a 16x burn)

Yes, if you go in at DNxHD 220, you should be fine. Generally, if you move up in bandwidth with editorial codecs, you shouldn’t have any real lossage. Will there be some? Absolutely. Significant? Probably not. I might suggest pushing one clip through first, especially if you’re intending to chromakey, but generally, you’ll be fine.

Denise – sorry not to get back sooner – I’ve been at a conference.

I’m on squeeze 7 – If your piece is short (under 60 min), then their DVD setting is probably pretty good by default.

Just make sure you’re NOT deinterlacing.

Well, if it worked up till yesterday, and now crashes, either something changed or something became corrupt.

Trash the user settings/site settings and see if it fixes this.

I won’t ask how it’s installed w/o fcp.

I’d do an animation export (huge file) and then compress it after the fact – just to get it out.

Alternatively, you might try the ‘share’ command under the file menu.

And technically, you can put the motion file directly in compressor.
