It’s all or nothing.

If you know in advance that you need them to be separate, you could use the Basic 3d filter for one, and the motion tab for the other.

FCP HD is version 4.5

AVCHD didn’t exist then. Neither did Log and transfer. You’ll have to transcode to DVCProHD

Well, the MPEG-2 method isnt’ as good as an h.264 (for bluray.)

What I meant is that you can only truly judge FCP via a broadcast chain (capture card to broadcast monitor.

Time machine only works on your boot drive – not external media.

I haven’t ever seen anything that monitors like Time machine – where it monitors and backs up on an hourly basis…and permits you to visually go back. For years, most backup software will do this, but you have to keep it running all the time – and it just adds an incremental backup.

But I suspect what you really want, is a Raid 5 – a set of several disks (usually 4) that use a percentage of room on each disk as redundancy information in case one of the drives die. You then replace the one dead drive, and it rebuilds the missing one. You can see solutions from GTech, Lacie and Drobo (amongst others.) This isn’t a backup – merely a live drive that is redundant. You will still need to backup media in the long term.

Perhaps you have an older version of FCP? FCP 6 is when ProRes showed up. You could transcode to DVCProHD – that was the codec most of us used before ProRes came around.

I don’t think you can do this via DVD OneStep (iDVD?) as it’s not recognizing that the incoming video is 16×9. Stick to Encore.

BTW, the QuickTime you export, is 720×480 (all SD is), it’s just getting flagged as 4:3 or 16:9.

DVD players can see the 16:9 flag and then decode however the dvd player is set.

Should? Yes. Is? No.

Apple provides an API for Camera manufacturers to have their cameras be readable via Log and Transfer, but Apple only does a small set of cameras that do this (think about it – each time a manufacturer did something ‘different’, Apple would have to buy the camera, figure it out, and add it to FCP)

MPG2 is best converted via MPEG Streamclip (you’ll see buckets of posts here on the cow on this app.)

It’s hard to say – but that’s because I didn’t communicate myself as well as I should had;

I was talking about the idea of connecting your mac to a ‘tv set’ (via DVI) vs. connecting it through a hardware card to a broadcast monitor.

FCP uses multiple ‘cheats’ to display video footage when you connect your mac to a TV
You can only truly trust the method of using a hardware card to a Broadcast monitor (not a TV).

So, let’s try to troubleshoot this again:
1) How are you judging it looks good or not? When you say it looks great on your mac…
…..Are you talking about inside of FCP?
…..Are you talking about inside of QuickTime?
…..Are you talking about a BluRay disc? If so, how did you get it from FCP to BluRay?
…..What were the BluRay settings in Toast? In Compressor?
2) How are you viewing a bluray disc?
…..Is this what you feel doesn’t look good?
…..how is the blu-ray connected to the TV?

It’s a complex issue and the terms “Just don’t look as good” isn’t as descriptive as we need to help.

There are three states of the canvas (or viewer)
Image, Image + Wireframe, Wireframe.

My guess is that you’re set to wireframe. If you click in the canvas, type “W” the picture should come back.

Final cut 7? Right click on the clip, change speed. In the dialog box that comes up, uncheck ripple sequence.
