Of course its not a simple split screen, I was definitely exaggerating that (well aware of the complexity), but not sure how I discredited Gondry by acknowledging him as one of the best directors and his video as one of the best. I thought I credited him pretty well… even pointed out that everyone should own the Director’s Label compilations. 🙂
Thought the video might inspire something better and more creative than a split screen… Cheers!

Upgrade to Leopard, what will it hurt? At least the known bugs have been worked out by now – whereas you upgrade to Snow Leopard right when it comes out – you get to work with all the new bugs!

… and assuming the footage was shot with a static camera (no pans, tilts, zooms, dollies, etc.) otherwise it will look very noticeably fake.

I would run your footage through compressor at various very low-quality settings and mix it back into your cut. Or use a free/cheap screen capturing software… some of them will create artifacts for you (’cause they’re cheap and not flawless).
If you know Motion, try this though… create a few small pixel like shapes (within a group) and use the replicator. Then randomize various parameters like color, position, etc. It will look like random pixelation.

Yes, the filters are lost. Use similar filters in Motion, or apply after the roundtrip.

If you roundtrip from FCP to Motion the motn proj will conform to your FCP sequence settings. That might make it more painless.

I was wrong the shift key doesn’t snap like I thought… but when I rotated a shape to 90 it did disappear for me (worked for x and y)… are you using a camera? Make sure you’re using 2D layers.
Sorry, I wasn’t a help with the snapping – does anyone know how to snap anchor points to corners, edges??
