It should work without rendering (unless effect as such are applied and you would have to render anyway). You might have to tweak some settings, but it will work. The codecs for FCP uncompressed work are pretty much interchangeable.

Final Cut Express can capture DV/HDV only. I would assume that it supports other QT formats however.

When you mentioned cinewave and paused a thought popped into my head.

It is my understanding that the cinewave paused on a single field, not a frame. The Kona can do that as well, but you just have to set it up in the Kona Control Panel. I don’t recall of had exactly where it is located (my guess in the codec tab) but it should be there with 2 options somewhat like full fame or single field. Let me know if this solves your problem or not.

We might be thinking of 2 different things here, but NTSC footage should contain fields. It is really inherent in the format, however you should not see them when playing video on and NTSC monitor. Where is your source footage coming from (beta, DV, Film)?

October 28, 2005 at 9:03 pm in reply to: Firewire player control?

You can control your DV deck via firewire with the Kona 2 (you just change your control setting to firewire). However, if you want to capture off of S Video or Composite you will have to convert the analog video to SDI to go into the Kona.

  • It is my understanding that there is not such thing as drop frame in 24p. I don’t know how this reflects on the other DVCPROHD formats however. I have been searching for a way to get “actual time” on a 720p sequence for broadcast. It is much harder to find this information than I though. I did, however, find an article that was rather interesting, but a bit old.

Anyway if you find a way to get DF please let me know.

October 26, 2005 at 5:39 pm in reply to: Kona LH Upgrade Question

The Kona can read all of the cinewave captured files. AJA also sends out a conflict checker with the install. Just run it and you will know what, if anything, you need to uninstall. Also there is an AJA Kona forum here on the cow, you can find a lot of info there specifically related to Kona if you come across any more questions.

Have you tried changing the capture offset by 2 frames, in audio/video settings?

September 23, 2005 at 9:28 pm in reply to: HD-SDI Captures still broken (cross post)

    Walter,

While much of my work in still done in SD, I have completed two or three projects in HD using FCP 5. I have captured all the material using the K2 HD-SDI. I have not seen the issues that you are referring to. However this makes me nervous as I am getting ready to start another HD project. Does this only effect sub clips or is it just any capture?

    Thanks,
