If you are only dealing with the RED and Canon 5D you might not need speeds that the HDPro2 can provide. You might look at the HDOne or HDElement.

You are looking to get 4 units?

Specs are actually not very close. HDPro2 is 8 drives and can hit 800 MB/s in RAID 5.

Check out this video to see the HDPro get over 100MB/s better performance with Thunderbolt.

No it is not on the switch. You need to install the SAN software on each client.

Only if you want to run XSAN. You don’t need an xserve with metaSAN. While a dedicated metadata server is a good idea, it’s not required, especially for smaller configurations. metaSAN’s floating master is perfect for a 4 user setup like the one in the chart.

    Cody,

Let me know if you have any questions about the HDElement. Sounds like it will be a good fit for you though.

One of the nice things about he HDElement is you can attach up to 3 HDElements at once, so you can always keep back ups that way too. It’s a very flexible solution.

Slot 4 is the idea choice for the eLane-1e (CalDigit PCIe card), although it will also work in slot 2 and 3 as well.

Don’t hesitate to ask if you have any additional questions.

Unforturentrly the CalDigit RAID Card is only PCIe. The HDOne, HDPro, and CalDigit VR can all be used in PCI-x machines though.

Walter I don’t want to make a big deal out of this, but you are mistaken with the products that you are talking about. I don’t want to confuse people who come here to get correct information.

[walter biscardi] “My facts are 100% straight. Two years ago we were shipped three boxes from CalDigit at the request of CalDigit. All three were called “CalDigit VR””

The products that you were sent were called:
    FirewireVR
    S2VR Duo
    S2VR HD

I understand that these products have similar names to CalDigit VR, but unfortunately the only “VR” is the same.

Walter you tested these units before I came to CalDigit, so I’m not sure about your experience. I know that CalDigit has hundreds of satisfied customers includes the majority of the leaders on this forum. The CalDigit VR is a quadruple interface 2 drive array, that is truly unique and powerful. You should really check it out. No offense to MAXX (whom I know they guys very well) but I think you will like the CalDigit VR a little more as there is nothing like it on the market.

With all do respect Walter, if you are going to post something here I would appreciate you get your facts correct, especially as a forum leader.

As you can see from this post the CalDigit VR just started shipping. Perhaps you got this NEW CalDigit product confused with something else.
