Great idea Mike. Probably do it off of an external server. I know that DVXUser server have served 100,000 downloads and now it is being mirrored to other sites just to handle the capacity. So maybe the Tosh site can do it. 😉 Give me a week or so, as I do want a little more edit time. These clips were the crash course and there is so much other footage to work with.
I think I will leave the music video with the green screen so that people can pop in their own backgrounds. That could be kind of fun.;-)
Also am having Nacy Schreiber do a DP’s kind of a test, so you know where and what the camera does. She has finished some of this but I am not sure how well it flies without a voice over, or at least a notpad, so again I just need a little more time. I am beginning to think I will be a FCP editor before this is all over. And here I thought I was a product manager. Hmmm.

Hi,
An older iPod with 1394 could be used to off load P2 cards from the camera, but it will be likely slower than real time. And no you could not use that to off load the P2 store. There is specific sofware in the HVX that allows for this to happen. The P2 store does not have that.

Hi Harry,
We did have footage playing back on a 42″ plasma, sorry you didn’t see that. There were 25 cameras shipped here last week and they were all version 4 but not all were tweaked on, so some may have been noisier. But the camera that will deliver will be like the ones that shot the footage. Did you see the Karate footage? Nice slo-mo with a single source lighting and smoke? There was no noise in that picture. Did you see the footage in the Moviola footage. Very nice stuff, many scenes with low light and darkness, no noise. Hopefully you will take the time to look at the footage for a representation of what the camera can do.
Take a look at the Basketball footage, or the opening of Memoirs of a Geisha, or the green screen stuff of the music video, all look pretty terrific. Lots of moving footage, not many lock downs. All of this was edited onFCP in the native codec and put bacck out to tape.

This is in reference to transferring the files off of the P2 card. If you want to record a streaming signal you need a hard drive on the receiving end that is intelligent.
The USB port is for working file transfer to a PC.

The cameras will start to ship at the end of December, I think that is true for Canada as well. As for you guys in Europe, there is a delay till February-March time frame.

[Dale McCready] “When shooting to P2 cards on the HVX, once you’ve shot can you plug in firewire and enable to transfer of shots off the camera to FCP like any old DV camera? Does it need to be in MCR mode or PC mode? Will FCP recognise this camera through Firewire to read off P2 with it’s thumbnail setup or does it just ignore that?
FCP will see the P2 Camera as a drive, open FCP, Import P2 and the files will now be resident on your system. Edit. If you wish to stram live to FCP, open the capture now window, Capture now.

It is essential for editing off of the P2, but in the case of FCP, it is simply unwrapped and you files have to move from the P2 card to the HD before you start to edit. In the systems that deal with MXF on the front end, they are able to start editing from the card. This really is noteworthy in a time constrant business like news where every minute seems like an hour when you are waiting to have things happen.

The P2 store will mount like a drive or shall I say a number of drives. Each P2 card stored will be its own drive. In the case of the P2 store you don’t edit from this one anyhow, this one needs to be transferred, I believe, before you start to edit. My experience with the P2 store is more limited.

Insert Editing requires flying erase heads. The AJ-SD93 does not have these. The AJ-SD930 does, which is one of the reasons that it costs more.

Hi,
The AJ-SD93 does not do insert edits, there are no flying erase heads in this machine. Its bigger brother the AJ-SD930 can do what you want.
