    Hi

I would like find out any users here using the following gear :

    FCP 5 + Kona 2 + Panasonic AJ-SD93 VTR

May I know whats the FireWire + RS-422 capability & limitation of Panasonic AJ-SD93 VTR ?

Tested Edit-to-Tape via RS-422 & unable to perform insert edit

    Assemble edit seems fine

Hence using FireWire for remote now, however there’s an issue with timecode drift, during insert edit

May I know whats the best way to setup remote control for AJ-SD93 VTR ?

    Cheers

I just rented the 93 deck two weeks ago. I was unable to get RS-422 control with my Kona 2 card. I just used firewire and that was that, other than an hour wasted thing to get the darn thing to work. I noticed that the 422 control was an option on the deck, so when I returned it to the shop I asked it they had that option installed. Well to make a long story short, they had no idea. However, they had every other option on that deck so I don’t know why they would not have the control. So I know that this does not answer your question, but I thought it might be interesting to you. And if you figure out a good setup for control with the 93, please let us know for future reference.

Actually, there is a fix for this. Call AJA support for the FCP patch. This patch is for SD Panasonic decks only.

    Hi,

The AJ-SD93 does not do insert edits, there are no flying erase heads in this machine. Its bigger brother the AJ-SD930 can do what you want.

    Hope this helps,

    Ben,

Insert Editing requires flying erase heads. The AJ-SD93 does not have these. The AJ-SD930 does, which is one of the reasons that it costs more.

    Hi Jan

    Thanks for your clarification

May I know for RS-422 remote, does it support Assembly mode for Edit-to-Tape ?

Is there any limitation for RS-422 remote ?

May I know if there’s any difference in using Firewire & RS-422 for remote ?

Your advice is much appreciated !

    Cheers
