It will be in a software upgrade that will be availaable in August.

Much like the SPX800 which had 24P added after its release, we had customers that wanted this camera sooner than latter and 24PN was not a factor for them so we brough what they wanted out and can add the 24PN later. In the meantime it does have 24P.

[Wayne Carey] “My main concern is the P2 thing. Before I get started, I’m not bashing the P2 concept. I’m just not a fan of any format that has not permanent storage solution. In order to use P2, you have to shoot with it and dump it to a hard drive for use. My issue is what is a good backup medium for this. At the moment, there’s not much other than lots of dual-layer DVDs or Blu-Ray data dics. Hard drives are NOT a long term solution.

There are many solutions available. The cheapest being DVDs and the most expensive being a server. In between we have Blue-ray and DLT. DLT has various points of price as well. I think that it does take some getting used to as far as comfort level, just as it did with me and the still image camera and digital memory there ,that I use almost exclusively at this point. I have archives of negatives but to find the one I want, well that is more challenging. To find the one I want of the digitial stills is very simple, I know where it is filed on my hard drive.

As far as hard drives not being a longer term solution, I too was challenged on this idea by one of the consultants that does some work with the folks at Western Digital and he told me that this spin-up thing used to be true and I certanily have my Zip drives to prove it, but today, apparently technology has changed. Not sure I would go there as I see the Blue-ray or the DLT and a better and cheaper solution.

I feel the beauty of the format is that it gives you a codec that was designed for the high end and doesn’t make you buy a proprietary deck to edit it. Not all deliverables are required in tape, and frankly you can rent the machine you need for the deliverable.

One solution to most of the issues are that you can digitize all of your footage into the DVCProHD codec and not even bother with the HDV codec. DVCProHD covers all of your bases with the formats.”

The issue is in the long GOP, once you compress it is gone, HDV 25Mbs, DVCPRO HD Iframe only 100Mbs. So if you compress to a Long GOP Master, playing it out into a DVCPRO HD timeline does not make it 100Mbs in it performance. It only edits like 100Mbs. The footage still has all of the attributes of HDV. In other words, 4:2:0 turned into 4:2:2 at the time of editing, is not real 4:2:2, your original does not have the original color, you gave that away in compression. Long GOP, 15 Frames turned into I frame does not make it like an original I frame recording, and so on.

Sounds like you have blown the internal fuse. You will need to send it in. The problem was probaly caused byt the indavertant misalignment of the pins on the pwer tap going into the battyer. You can make connction, but you just can’t fully connect the battery, but the tips will be able to toch the connectors and for a fleeting second will send a reverse polarity to the camera. Yes the connector is key but the pins seem to be able to make a connection anyhow.

None the less the Eliz battery is fine and works well. We are using them up here in Anchorage for the Iditarod shoot, and they are great. I have told our guys to disconnect the camera cable when changing batteries.

So it is not an expensive repair, but it needs to go to service. Go to our website, wwww.panasonic.com, look under support, look for service centers, put in model number and your zip code and send her in. Might even want to call first.

I think you shuld have a service tech look at it. Be sure to send a tape with the problem recorded on it. You could even narrate over it and tell them what to look for.

Hi Ben,

Any potential for streaming to your laptop to record HD. And of course at least half of the folks that have this camera use it in DV mode to pay for itself. That is the beauty of this camera.

The 16GB upgrade is not even available yet, but there is a firmware upgrade. You can find it by going to the HVX product page and going to the resources and you will find the link there.

I would definitely try the Mount Drive suggestion above, but failing that, I would try to discern if the 1394 is working at all. Try connecting the two cameras and see if the one will play into the other. If not then, there is the problem.

Hi,

Actually the HVX200 will need a firmware upgrade, but it should be as straitforward as downloading the executable file to an SD card. Putting the SD card in the camera and having the camera do the upgrade.
