  • HVX200 Blown Internal Fuse???

    Good evening all.

I think I have a major problem. My hvx200 no longer powers on. I’ve checked both of my stock pana batteries, AC power supply, and unfortunately the new Elipz 10K battery. I believe here in lies the problem. I think the new Elipz 10K battery just blew the internal fuse of the camera. The funny or not so funny thing, it as the first time powering it on with it. I powered it up for just a second, turned it off to something, came back and tried to power it back on and… nothing. Just a guess, but with no power from any source I’m thinking this must be the problem. Has anyone else run into this trouble. Has anyone ever heard of blowing a fuse in this camera? If so, can it be fixed by me, a local dealer, or anyone other than sending it back to Panasonic? I’ve got one week to fix it before my scheduled shoot and I need it working arrrrggg…..

    I’d appreciate your thoughts.

    Many thanks,
    Jason

You can definitely send it into Panasonic but if a 3rd party battery fried it, your warranty is probably void. Still if it doesn’t work you’ll need to get it looked at sooner or later and probably pay for the fix. With luck it’s not going to be too $.

Sounds like you have blown the internal fuse. You will need to send it in. The problem was probaly caused byt the indavertant misalignment of the pins on the pwer tap going into the battyer. You can make connction, but you just can’t fully connect the battery, but the tips will be able to toch the connectors and for a fleeting second will send a reverse polarity to the camera. Yes the connector is key but the pins seem to be able to make a connection anyhow.

None the less the Eliz battery is fine and works well. We are using them up here in Anchorage for the Iditarod shoot, and they are great. I have told our guys to disconnect the camera cable when changing batteries.

So it is not an expensive repair, but it needs to go to service. Go to our website, wwww.panasonic.com, look under support, look for service centers, put in model number and your zip code and send her in. Might even want to call first.

Thanks all; it’s getting serviced in Santa Monica at The Video Clinic. Ask for Serg, he’s been a great help and truly represents great customer service.

For anyone else who is thinking about purchasing the Elipz battery for their HVX200. BE CAFEFUL when connecting it to your camera. Make sure everything lines up properly i.e. matching grooves, aligning the Anton Bauer text, and having enough light to see what your doing 🙂 , Then connect the power supply to your camera. I’m still a little confused how I did it. Nothing was forced when connecting everything, but could have possibly nicked something when plugging everything together. Humm…???

Anyway, I’ll try it again when it returns from repair.

On a side note… The Elipz kit is actually very compact and seems like it will be a nice addition if… I don’t blow another fuse.
