I saw this problem with Vegas 11 as well. It appears to be fixed in Vegas 12, although I can’t say for certain as I’ve moved away from using Vegas due to instability issues over the previous two releases. But my quick test of this issue under 12 seemed to indicate that it was resolved.

I’m using CS6 (but on a PC), and it handles my C100 footage pretty well. Premiere does occasionally flack out on AVCHD footage, which results in it sitting there for a while and then putting up a red screen in the program window. When it starts doing that, I need to transcode the footage into something else, like Cineform.

I recently bought the SmallHD AC& OLED monitor and am very happy with it so far. I love the fact that all version of the AC7 have tools built-in to the monitor such as focus assist and exposure assist, which should be great for DSLR shooting.

It sounds like you’re perhaps importing the original clips off the card, instead of the combined clips generated by the C100 utility?
At any rate, I usually just copy the MTS files off the card (I think they are MTS….) and use them directly as opposed to using the utility, and assemble them together in their own sequence to get one complete clip to use in the larger project. I archive my projects to optical disc, and having smaller segments to write to disc makes life a little easier for me.
One thing to note on a different topic — I’ve run into issues with Premiere getting confused with long clips from the C100, where it doesn’t update the timeline when you play the sequence, and eventually just puts a red screen up in the preview window. I’ve had to convert the footage to the Cineform codec to get around this.
You also need to force Premiere to interpret 30P footage from a C100 as 30P — by default it sees it as 60i, and you get interlacing artifacts. (in case you’ve not run into this yet…)

I had found that the 8mbps looks nice on the computer, and often plays well on the Xoom. Sometimes the playback gets a little jerky on the zoom, but not enough for me to care in the context I’m using it in. Someday I’ll play with it more to try and find the “perfect” compromise between video quality and playback smoothness for my Xoom.

I also have an h4n and have never had a problem pulling the media into Vegas. Odd.
But when I have problems like this in general, I use an external audio editing program, such as Adobe Audition or Sony Sound Forge, to work on the clips. The level of surgery that this will likely require is not what the audio aspects of Vegas are really designed for, IMHO.

If you create a DVD movie (which is what you’re implying), it will not be HD quality — because DVDs are not HD. You’d need to create a Blu-Ray movie disc for HD quality.
If you really aren’t trying to create a DVD movie disc, but are merely using a DVD disc as a data disc to deliver an HD video file, then you can still use Main Concept AVC, and pick one of the HD templates (although I’d increase the max and average data rates a bit to get better quality); or, you could render to WMV and use one of the HD templates. Although that doesn’t go over well with Mac users, if that’s who you’re delivering to.
