You could probably do this with a couple of tracks of each guy and a third track with the sparkle effect. Play with some of the Brightness/Contrast filter until you get a washed out silhouette, then add a filter to colorize it. Fade that in then cross fade it to the normal version of the guy. Start with both identical clips one on top of each other, color one on top, then split (“S” key) the top track where you want the normal one to come in so they stay in sync. Your spakle effect goes on top… you’re on your own on that..it looks like a particle effect. try some of the free smoke samples and colorize them to match – video co-pilot might have a couple free ones or you could make your own. I don’t think vegas has a media generator that would get you there.

The freeze frame was probably done by grabbing the last frame of the jump as a still, remove the background in photoshop (save as PSD or PNG with transparency), then over lay that image onto the second clip with the kid walking by.

I’m lazy and just add a black media generated event to the top track and fade it in. Done.

January 24, 2012 at 4:49 am in reply to: Another experiment with New Blue workflow to avoid crashesAs of last weekend I had at least 10 crashes in a row trying to insert a title into the beginning of a 5 minute project timeline. In almost every crash I got the option to submit a full report to Sony. On a couple crashes it went directly to desktop. the crashes happened as soon as I tried to edit the style of the title. I gave up and used the title in its default font. It was just a fun project so it didn’t matter. I’m using Vegas 64 build 521 and the most recent version of NB titler (which as I recall you can’t tell which version it is until you download it) I think a version number and release notes are the industry standard – maybe I just missed that but I do recall others complain about the lack of a version number on the download page.

January 24, 2012 at 4:32 am in reply to: “How can I sync Generated Media keyframes to the timeline?”At the bottom left of the pan/crop box there is a little cursor icon with a lock next to it. Click this to sync the cursor with the timeline. this way your preview window will show the frame you’re working on in the pan/crop window.

Just did a few tests in V11 and Sony Borders will always place the border around the entire screen regardless of how you may crop the image in the event.

January 24, 2012 at 4:12 am in reply to: Setting the Source Layer in BCC for VegasThanks Peter. When I first tried Optical Flow I did just that and realized I needed to drag out my event to match the longer video once it was slowed down. I just thought the empty event approach might work better especially when you’ve got pan/crop on the original event…though it doesn’t seem to get messed up for some reason.
And I hope you didn’t think I was razzing anyone with the manual update comments – I realize these things are written for many hosts and I’m used to interpreting things into my own tongue. 🙂

January 24, 2012 at 4:09 am in reply to: Setting the Source Layer in BCC for VegasWhen I last spoke with the Boris guys I was told the fix is in V8 which I’m looking forward to in “a couple months.” In developer’s time that could mean something else. 🙂 I’ll wait if that means it works cause Vegas V11 stabilizer is useless – you loose a quarter of your screen and it looks no different.

January 20, 2012 at 5:10 am in reply to: Motion tracker will not work in Match Move(Vegas Pro 10)John, I’m seeing the same message trying to track a lens flare. My start frame is only 2,981 so I’m no where near the 30,000 mark. Any clue?
EDIT: Figured it out. The START frame has to be less than 300, the END frame is 30,000. So basically what I’m starting to figure out is the tracking tools in BCC are not something you just plop in on your timeline like you would any other effect. You really have to create the effect at the beginning of your timeline and either render them out or save them as a separate veg and position the event where you need it. None of the tutorials speak to these fundamental aspects of the tracker and since the tutorials only show single events that so happen to be at the start of the timeline, it doesn’t come up in the conversation. Like the fact that you can’t relocate a tracked event without messing up the track because the track data is tied to the timeline, not the event.
Perhaps this is a worthy topic for a tutorial? And some advanced tracking FX where you need to overlay an irregular shaped layer using irregular shaped corner pins. Example being my attempt to place a modified stop sign (transparent PNG) over the original video. I used the sign bolts as four corners. But the bolts were not at the four corners (cause stop signs don’t have corners) and they were also not perfectly square. So the aspect of the PNG got all messed up and I had to do a lot of individual offsetting to make it match up.
Sorry if I’m hijacking this thread… 🙂

January 18, 2012 at 8:58 pm in reply to: Can’t get corner pin tracking to start – BCC7 for vegasThanks Peter.
I was able to figure out last night that not only did I need to be on the first frame of the clip (event) but also needed to be at the first frame of the Timeline. Then today on a call with Boris, I was advised that I could change the “Start Tracking Frame 1” to equal whatever project frame number is the fist frame of the event. That was the real fix. Further, by checking Use “Start-End 1 for All” I only have to set the start frame on Tracker one and the rest will use this value. So when your event is not at the beginning of the timeline you must adjust the Start Tracking Frame. This is something none of the tutorials I’ve seen talk about.
